SpoilerAs indicated by the Trello Board, they are investigating this widespread issue for PC.
Console users seem to be encountering this issue less than PC users, so the issues console users are experiencing is most likely unrelated tot his one.
Currently there is no ETA (Last Checked: 13:32 UTC +1 04/11/2022)
Users have reported getting similar freezes/crashes on these platforms
(Do note that freezing/crashing are generic issues that can have many different underlying issues)
PC
- Windows 10
- Windows 11
Console
- Xbox
- Playstation 4 + 5
- Steam Deck (SteamOS)
It seems that there seems to be quite the amount of users experiencing this, though I've also noticed a large part of the playerbase playing without an issue.
Standard troubleshooting is still something that is recommended as these types of crashes can be quite common and comparable to other causes.
DATA COLLECTION
As with most issues, devs enjoy getting some juicy data to help them figure out the cause.
This Reddit post requests users to use a certain launch option that makes it possible for them to collect data.
I'll cite the post below:

Hey everyone, to those experiencing the freezes, can you try adding this line to your launch parameters "+watchdog_time_milliseconds 30000". Then once the game freezes please wait about 30 seconds, a prompt should show up saying "The game is not responding. Press Retry to wait or Cancel to quit the game.", we need you to hit cancel. This won't fix the problem but it should help us get some more information to get it fixed ASAP.
How to add command lines:
EA App:
From “My Collection”, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the Apex Legends tile and select “View Properties”.
Add "+watchdog_time_milliseconds 30000" in the text box under “Advanced Launch Options”.
Click “Save” and launch the game normally.
Origin:
From “My Game Library”, right click Apex Legends -> Game Properties -> Advanced Launch Options
Add "+watchdog_time_milliseconds 30000" to Command line arguments
Click “Save” and launch the game normally
Steam:
From your library, right click Apex Legends, and select Properties.
Add "+watchdog_time_milliseconds 30000" to “Launch Options”
Close the properties window and launch the game normally

Workarounds
Some users have reported that certain things have resolved their issues or at the very least found a way to decrease the frequency of these crashes occurring.
These aren't guaranteed to work for all users, so consider yourself lucky if one of these workarounds resolves your problem.
(If it does resolve your issue then you were probably not encountering the same issue, though I cannot confirm this)
1st Workaround (Opting into the DX12 Beta)
In the meantime you can use the workaround mentioned by Mad_Professor86 which is a few posts above this one.
Make sure your computer is able to run DX12, most systems are able to do this, though it's important to check.
Do note that the DX12 version of the game is quite unstable and has a lot of problems that can present themselves, so it might not be recommended to use DX12 in Ranked.

Any feedback and other useful data is welcome in that thread, so if you're going to try it out, your finds are more than welcome!
2nd Workaround (Deleting/Redownloading assets)
Either you have another issue or for some random reason this resolves your issue whilst encountering the same problem.
I'm just including this as a standard step as for some reason the assets can cause some whacky instability in the game.
Following these steps could resolve your issue:
- Press Windows Key + R
- Put in %USERPROFILE%\saved games\respawn\apex and select OK
- Delete the assets folder
3rd Workaround (Playing the game in Windowed mode)
Some users have reported that playing in windowed mode has resolved their issue or decreased the amount of crashes they encounter.
(Make sure to be playing in Windowed, not Borderless Windowed)
4th Workaround (Wiping your drive and reinstalling your OS) [Not recommended]
So far 2 users have reported to me that doing a complete clean install of their OS (Wiping/Nuking their entire storage devices) has resolved it for them.
One wiped/nuked their storage device and just reinstalled their Win10, another upgraded to Win11 after wiping their storage device.
(So far they haven't had any issues, though it's possible that they could get these issues later on)

Some users have reported that they don't encounter crashes in Arenas and that it only happens in Battle Royale.
(Might be an indication that it's map related)

Some users have mentioned that they are getting these freezes in the main menu and firing range.
(So maybe not map related then?)

Some users are reporting that wiping all data and reinstalling their OS has resolved their issues.
So far 2 users have reported that it has worked, their methods:
- Wiping all data and installing Win10 again
- Wiping all data and upgrading to Win11 from Win10
(It's unsure what effect other OS's have on the game ATM, so I'm currently only documenting Windows)
I also don't recommend a lot of players to do this, as you'd have to literally wipe all your data on your device, which isn't a very great workaround for those storing lots of important data.
This more serves as an indication that this could be a possible workaround, also indicating that this might be an OS issue.
Issue should be resolved now, if you are experiencing some form of freezing/crashing then it's most likely a different issue.

i tried the 2nd method , and it seemed to work for half a game, but then it froze and crashed as usual.
Wanted to add my 2 cents, tried all the workarounds 1 at a time and also a combination of all. Still crashed in all situations. Cause seems to be complete randomness, sometimes I crash a minute in, other times I go the entire match just fine until the last fight (that one hurt). Running a GTX 1080TI, talked with some friends who are not having any issues, they have newer hardware / possibly more video memory
I want to also mention that I had this freezing issue last season on storm point (although it was much rarer), so I believe the issue is not map related. If it is map related then it's something that the new map has a lot more of that storm point has fewer of
I am running the game on lowest settings for the highest framerate, average of 144fps
already try all of em but still froze the game pepesad
need to wait for hotfix patch
what i tried :
- verify the game (steam)
- use dx12 beta
- windows mode
- borderless mode
- nvidia reflex (in game setting)
- set EAC priority to low
- delete asset folder
- low setting in game- turn off overlay discord , steam , nvidia ex
- lunch option +fps_max 80 or 75 or 60As many people said, i can confirm that in 2 PCs with Win10 Pro and RTX 2070 (latest drivers), since this latest S15 update, Apex Legends started having freezes with no observable pattern. It usually freezes randomly in game without a specific movement or action. It freezes 2-3 times per game. It is unfortunately unplayable.
what i tried :
- verify the game (steam)- borderless mode
- low setting in game
- nvidia reflex (in game setting)
- deleted the game and donwload it again...
No clue what is going wrong.
- @Armtech I’ve started wondering if it was an issue related to older hardware. I’m running an i5-3570k with a 1070, I’m also like you, running low settings and still getting 140 FPS
- @T0BACKY ia have seen a lot of reports with older hardware so not sure about that tbh
I crashed in the firing range while shooting at dummies after throwing a horizon ultimate. Also i tried no fill trio br playing wraith and still crashed walking around the map. the zone was closing and i was near one of the blue buildings at each zipline end area. i noticed frame drops in these blue buildings as well. and in one game i crashed after throwing my seer ultimate near it with teams fighting inside it.
- @Cloudy-planet9 was it a crash or a freeze with no apex_crash.txt and you needed to terminate it. Are you on dx 12 or 11?
It was a freeze that i had to alt tab and the close game from task manager because it wasn't responding at all with an apex crash txt in documents. and one time i had a complete crash where game closed by itself with no error messages showing. but the freezes/not responding is the more common one to happen and i'm on dx 11 didn't do the new dx 12 beta thing.
So after playing 3 more games with no fill, it crashed all 3 times within 5 mins. so no fix there. At this point iam kinda out of options and wondering if this is even something i can fix before going away for the rest of the week. Cuz it sucks so many of us cant even enjoy the game like we used to.
- @AverageFemale28 yeah, just scrolled through the reddit S15 mega thread (again) and it seems that a lot of people have older hardware (including myself, 1060), but have seen a few with more up to date hardware as well (3070ti for example).
- @XHelperZ frequent sudden freeze, unplayable.
Previous season I would have 1 crash, most of the time this was the first game I played.
Now with the new season, I get the crash 1-5 times in one game.The screen freezes and you have to task manager close the game and reboot it before being able to do something.
In the firing range I have no problems what so ever. Main menu also no problems, the moment I play BG I will crash 100% of the times.
I already uninstalled the game and installed it again and updated my Nvidea driver, but this didn't improve anything.
First I thought it happened the moment I dealt damage to an enemy (most of the time this is the trigger), but it also crashes after some time without dealing damage (which varies sometimes it is 2min, 30sec, 6min,...).
(I already had DX12 on my pc, is apex only now running on DX12 and crashing because of it?? I play the game on Steam, maybe this is a common factor?)
Extra edit: Playing on DX12 doesn't help... (I had 1 game without the screen freeze, the next game it froze 30 seconds in game.)
- @Proxoa same and 2 out of 6 times it happened to me tonight was in a ranked game where I reconnected back into the lobby, not match, with 10 mins penalty for both
same * still happening i reinstall al windows I downgrade my NVidia drivers still crashing unplayable and annoying as *!!!! multimillion dollar game and still cant fix this *!!!

- @z3dn4nr3F- Trust me, same, but as it seems all our tries to solve this didn't work out, so the problem is out of our hands and it's a problem on respawn's end and only they can fix it. so best thing we can do is help their troubleshoot and wait for the hotfix. meanwhile you can keep track of their fixing progress on their Trello page. Currently the issue is under the "investigating" category and once they found a fix and all is done it should have a "coming in future patch" title over it. https://trello.com/b/ZVrHV38P/apex-tracker
When i get frozen its always right after a pathfinder hook sounds nearby
Can you pls pin my solution causs only dx12 works and this (it ll freeze but 1 in 10 games not 5 times in 1 game)
Issue is if your fps is fluctuating so if your fps bounces a lot you ll freeze.
Cap fps as low as to be stable and you wont freeze. Thank me later. Cheers
- @anestetic Example: 1st pc i had 80-110 fps capped at 75 no crash
2nd pc 211-270 - capped 144 no crash - @anestetic Keep capping lower fps until it stops freezing
