I went ahead and did an uninstall/reinstall but same problem persists.
I wish there was some way to jump over and over by myself to see if I can just brute force until I figure out what the cause is (i.e. mash buttons during each jump) but there is no such in the practice arena.
It would probably be less frustrating if it had never worked, but it has worked in the past at least a couple of times so there must be a way.
Might I get more response if this were moved to the bug forums instead of technical?

Hey @FillmoreLove,
Thank you for following up!
There is something else I'd like to test as well. What happens if you launch Apex Legends through a different Windows Admin user? If you need more information on how to create one check out the Microsoft Support website.
Let me know if you're still having the same issues if you launch the game from a different Windows user. Thanks again.

I am still having the same problem.
I made a new user and gave it admin. Then I logged into new user (took several minutes to prep stuff) launched Steam and then the game. Game settings had clearly changed as it gave me intro movie.
Same problem as JM.

Tried again after the new patch, still launch in a state where I cannot control pitch as JM.
Wow, so I figured it out but I am confused as to why there is no documentation/it was never mentioned. Maybe it was somewhere in the original tutorial and I forgot and everyone else just took it for granted?
It turns out you have to press and hold the "w" key. Or maybe its just me and everyone else has it set up so they don't need to?

As far as I know it's always worked like that. The training when you first start up the game only puts you in the firing range, so it doesn't actually cover dropping in. I don't remember if it ever calls out that you have to keep moving forward in order to maintain speed now that I think about it. That's good feedback that I can pass along.

It should also be in the key mapper settings as I looked there many times.it should say something about jump control in addition to move forward.

For the second time I have been with another JM who clearly didn't know this, I tried to tell but they didn't speak english.
