Season 7 stream lag

Hey guys

I streamed apex completely fine last season, no lag and with a new PC that is very capable to handle Apex plus more demanding games I was all good.
I recently streamed the new season 7 and I get lag, Not in the actual game (thats smooth and im happy with how it runs), but only on stream.
I use OBS Studio and have never encountered any lag before and I tried out other games and its only Apex Legends.
I have made sure everything is updated from windows, drivers, OBS and apex. I even switched from Origin to Steam and its still not working. It is not an internet problem either.
I noticed as soon as I tab into apex whilst streaming my GPU maxs out to 98% whilst when tabbed out of Apex its 28-32%.

Anyone else encountered this? Any help?

I've tried changing bitrate but nothing changes either.

  • I have always been running OBS in Admin Mode to counter such things, but with Apex it does not help. I have even turned off gaming mode etc to make sure OBS can get some priority...

  • Hey @miraisu cheers for the details! is game mode activated for you in windows?

What was your GPU usage before S7?  Also its common that if you tabb out of game it will draw less resources.

Is this only happening when you stream with OBS?

  • @EA_Atic Yes only when I stream on OBS and my game mode is on.
I never check my GPU before because I hardly streamed alot of prev season, But I never had any lag problems.

  • I have the same issue, with season 6 there was no issues. Basically GPU runs at 99% most of the time and this does not leave anything for NVENC as it does need to use GPU as well and causes stream to lag/stutter for other people.

  • @rembomy If you find out anything let me know. It's stopping me streaming Apex content which Is my fav to play
  • Right now the workaround is to use CPU (x264) to stream Apex, but this can require quite beefy CPU for proper quality streaming. If you have a bad CPU then you just need to wait for fix from developers, but i'll keep investigating if something can be done our side.

  • @rembomy Its my GPU, CPU is fine ^^
I saw a thing that apparently running OBS in administrator mode helps???
Game mode focus on apex and maxes out the GPU and doesnt leave any room for anything else, especially streaming. So running in administrator mode will give obs priority over apex?
I'm trying it out tomorrow in my stream

  • @rembomy Hey!! The running in administrator on OBS worked for me! fixed everything. Made sure everything was updated too. I hope you can find a way to fix yours.
Apparently the GPU in game mode is focused all on the game leaving no space for anything else to run. makes sense if you're not streaming.
So running admin mode on obs gives it priority.
