Severe packet loss on EA anti-DDoS Apex servers with Xfinity connection

Hi there, I’m experiencing severe and consistent packet loss, but only when playing Apex Legends and only when the game connects me to EA’s anti-DDoS protected servers. After extensive testing, this does not appear to be a local network issue. It looks like a routing or peering problem between Xfinity and EA’s infrastructure.

Connection details:

  • Platform: PlayStation 5 (wired via Ethernet)
  • NAT Type: Open (Type 2)
  • Latency: Typically 30 to 40 ms
  • Advanced Security: Disabled on the gateway

What I’m seeing:

  • Apex runs normally when connected to standard servers
  • When the game connects to protected servers (identified by the “home plate” icon), I get 50 percent or more incoming packet loss
  • Outgoing packet loss remains at 0 percent
  • Server choke is 0, so the issue is not with server capacity

Gameplay symptoms:

  • Heavy rubberbanding and prediction errors
  • Unplayable matches from start to finish
  • Consistent problem across multiple games and times of day

Important context:

  • Console is hardwired, not on Wi-Fi
  • Multiple Ethernet cables tested
  • Gateway fully rebooted
  • No port blocking or firewall conflicts
  • Other games play without issue and speed tests show stable results
  • Traceroutes to EA servers show normal latency and routing, but they do not reflect the UDP packet loss Apex experiences
  • The issue seems tied to when I’m routed through EA’s anti-DDoS protected servers, and that’s where I see packet loss on Xfinity. When I’m on a normal Apex server, there’s no issue, no packet loss.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this. I appreciate any help you can provide as this seems to not be a one off issue and effects many users when placed on a EA’s anti-DDoS protected server from an Xfinity ISP.

  • Do you know how to fix this then? I’m also having this issue exactly and it’s happening in other servers as wel

  • I'm having the same issue. 75% packet loss on most games but only on ranked, everything is fine, other people's accounts on system that are lower ranked gold and under and fine. I'm diamond ranked, i get the shield and almost always packet loss

  • How can someone get off EA’s anti-DDos protected sever?

the game is unplayable, I don’t understand how EA allows this to happen to their customers. You’re right  it seems like it’s an Xfinity thing as well. Most if not all issue I saw doing research if ISP was shared it’s always Xfinity.

Any update from ea or have you found any fix yourself? Same issues here on Xbox and it’s infuriating

Ok so I was able to play on my brothers Xbox and not lag on the protected severs. I don’t know if it’s the wifi or the Xbox because mine did lag on the same WiFi. I’m going to try and see what happens if I play on my Xbox with different wifi.

  • I’ve changed PS5 from original to pro and still have the same issue. It’s an Apex and ISP (Xfinity) issue.

  • I’m having the same problem. I’m on Xbox series S got new connection new Internet new wiring I get into the game on ranked  my packet loss is high and my Io in the game is high in ranked  but when I go to the firing range, my I/O is low to high, but pubs is fine I have Xfinity.
