Stretch res not working
Hello I’m here to ask about stretch resolutions. I was resetting my apex when suddenly once I opened it I got black bars even though I have the correct launch options to prevent them. It’s confusing ...

Hi there! That is a frustrating situation, but it is completely fixable. It is highly likely that when you reset your Apex Legends settings, either the game or your graphics card changed the scaling mode, which caused the non-standard 1024x1152 resolution to stop stretching to full screen.
Game launch options often fail to force-remove black bars if your system or GPU driver settings are actively blocking scaling.
Here are the step-by-step solutions to get your stretched resolution back:
1. Adjust Scaling Settings in Your GPU Driver (Main Step)
Black bars appear when your graphics card tries to maintain the original aspect ratio. You need to force it to stretch the image.
• For NVIDIA:
1. Right-click on your desktop and open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. In the left menu, select Adjust desktop size and position.
3. Under "Select a scaling mode:", choose Full-screen.
4. In the "Perform scaling on:" drop-down menu, select GPU (this is usually more stable than "Display").
5. Check the box for Override the scaling mode set by games and programs. Click "Apply".
• For AMD:
1. Open AMD Software (Adrenalin Edition).
2. Go to Settings (gear icon) -> Display.
3. Enable GPU Scaling.
4. Under Scaling Mode, select Full panel.
2. Check the Apex Legends Configuration File
Since you reset your settings, your videoconfig.txt file might have been overwritten and locked out your custom tweaks.
1. Press Win + R, type %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Respawn\Apex\local and hit Enter.
2. Find the videoconfig.txt file, right-click it -> Properties -> uncheck "Read-only" (if it is checked), and click OK.
3. Open the file with Notepad and verify/change the following lines to match your resolution:
• "setting.defaultres" "1024"
• "setting.defaultresheight" "1152"
• "setting.fullscreen" "1" (forces fullscreen mode)
• "setting.nowindowborder" "1"
4. Save the file. Then, right-click it again, go to Properties, and check "Read-only" so the game cannot automatically revert your settings at launch.
3. Why does 1440x1080 work, but 1024x1152 doesn't?
The 1440x1080 resolution uses a standard 4:3 aspect ratio common for stretched gaming. Your GPU easily understands how to stretch it.
However, 1024x1152 is a highly unconventional 8:9 (vertical) aspect ratio. Your monitor or driver likely flags it as an "error" for a horizontal screen and forces it into a boxed frame. If Step 1 didn't fix it, you will need to manually add it as a Custom Resolution in your NVIDIA/AMD Control Panel, making sure to match your monitor's native refresh rate (Hz) so the system officially recognizes it.
Ok thank you I’ll try that.
