Terrible frametimes, inputlag and crazy screen tearing

Hi,

i haven't played since first split season 13, since the game got very repetetive, terrible meta, and all in all it was just not fun.

i got back two days ago, to try the new season, but the screen tearing and frametimes are just terrible. even when running the game at 240-300 fps in the firing range, there will be an insane amount of screen tearing/micro stuttering. this also adds to a weird input latency issue from my mouse to the pc, it basically makes the game feel like i play on vsync 60 fps, when im just playing without anything but at 250 fps. i've tried different sync settings aswell, but to no help. I usually play very competetively, and always look for ways to optimize pc and game performance, and the fact that a game like call of duty feels smoother when running at 140-190fps, compared to when apex runs at 240-300, is just weird to me. there are spots on KC which drops my fps from 210 to 80fps, for no apparent reason. i don't know  why its doing it, but it genuinely feels like my 240hz monitor is replaced by a 75 hz. the game utilizes a whopping 1.7gb VRAM, and a crazy 20% CPU, and about 4GB ram.

i don't know what it is, but its infuriating and honestly makes the game unplayable from my end. I have attatched a dxdiag so you can see pc specs.

everything becomes even worse when running OBS on the side, even though vram utilization is on about 3gb VRAM used, and actual RAM running at 12GB usage, CPU gets up to 23% utilization when OBS is running on the side with Apex.

could it have something to do with the new anti cheat?

I've tried deleting all video configs, settings files, and autoexecs, repair the game and yet there is no change to it at all.

any help is very much appreciated!

  • @dynam1ck I was messing around with it yesterday, and found out that the game in windowed fullscreen feels alot smoother, no screen tearing, only issue is the fact that windowed borderless feels like playing with vsync.
i did some more testing and found that if i play on a non-native resolution, then all the issues are gone, i tried setting a custom res with CRU, to test this out, and if i set it to 1728x1080 instead of 1920x1080, then i would still get screen tearing. but if i then set the ingame res to 1650x1024, instead of the 1728x1080 or 1080p res, then everything went away and felt like true 240hz. i don't know whats causing this, but i suspect that its an issue on apex' side, since i tested various custom resoltuions using CRU, with different vertical totals and horizontal totals. tried different refreshrates, and since CRU makes your custom res the active signal of your monitor, then it automatically becomes the native res of the monitor.

if i reset all my video drivers and reset my custom resolution settings, so my monitor went back to 1080p with standard factory settings, then i would get crazy screen tearing again. BUT when i turned down the resolution to 1650x1024, which is the next highest resolution, which apex supports without editing videoconfig, then all the screen tearing stopped. i hope a dev will see this at some point, and look into the issue, as it basically means that i can't play on a native res, which means my gpu will have to do a little more work to produce the frames.
  • Yeah, posted this on reddit, bluebusters and here, since its rare i see devs actually help out in here, Blurbusters was because i was convinced it could be a monitor issue or something, since the Forum is just everything optimization 😛

I've posted new topick yesterday about the same problem i think and i noticed that more people have same issue like yours but I found something else.

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Ranked-servers-lags/m-p/11754414

Most of these problems happens to me in ranked servers.

Areana or normal BR looks much more smoother.

I have found one solution to this and i'm already working at second one.

Origin in backround slowing my PC and when I try to close my PC only this app blocks closing and still wotrking on backround. Another thing is, when I close the game and then trying to close Origin, App still working with some bug screen.

1st solution Try to open a game on clean account without of any friends.

2nd clean your drivers with AMDcleanuputility, download lastest drivers. Don't touch OC window and try to play on default setting in game profile. Turn on AMD SAM, FSR if you have 😉 and Freesync on.

About origin I'll send a report about that.

Let me know if this helps

  • Im not Home from work yet, gotta hit the gym aswell - Will be Home in about 4 hours, then i’ll test my theory put and report back 😛

  • Mines constantly bad, and i run nvidia with debloated drivers and everything

  • after just using a non native res, everything is all good - apex has never felt this smooth before. idk whats up with the native res issue though... even when changing native res with cru, the new native res has the same issue. there is a slight stutter when running OBS, but its not affecting input latency whatsoever, so thats nice
