The solution to constant crashing is out of reach, EA Needs to address this.

I have finally found the issue as to why over the past few months of playing Apex I've been crashing on a daily basis. The issue in question is, Direct X 12. Without rolling back drivers to one that contains Directx11 (the files need to still be on your system, and windows may automatically install DX12 again after rollback) Apex will crash at random intervals when in-game. This has led me to be banned, lose games, lose RP, and genuinely ruin one of my favorite games of all time. If you are feeling like you've "Tried everything" and STILL crash constantly (especially after the most recent patch) I can bet money it's due to a Directx12 issue that has been ongoing for a while now. Please fix this EA, I want to be able to play this game again, there's no other solutions for me to try, this is my last chance to have fun with friends.

Here is a link to my past thread about this issue: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Code-Net-Random-Crashes-all-on-low-medium-graphics/td-p/11228042

Attached is a DXDIAG of my system, and if it matters my specs are as follows:

RTX 2070 Super
32 GB ram

Intel i7-9700K 3.6GHz

Samsung (MZ-V7E500BW) 970 EVO SSD 500GB - M.2 (where apex is installed)

I played initially on origin but have moved to steam when apex was added there.

  • @AmongUsSusMoment I don't quite understand. I was under the impression that Apex doesn't use dx12. Also, wouldn't that give an error related to directx since that is causing the issue? Why do I get errors in my dump files related to AmdPowerXpressRequestHighPerformance? How did you test this driver rollback?
  • So after talking to some people on the steam community, while I believe apex doesn't use DX12 I feel that is the issue. There seems to be some issue with apex wanting DX11 when most windows systems use DX12. In a normal case like any other game, DX is backward compatible. But for some reason, I can't explain, for I and many other steam folks, we're getting a DX12 Apex Legends Hang issue occasionally in DXdaig when checking for crashes. I wish I could explain better but being assured by the community that they've been having the same issue as me and getting similar error codes makes me understand that I wasn't going crazy afterall. But for amd its a different story, you should try going online to check and see what version of direct x is included with older AMD drivers compatible with ur specs. For me, my Nvidia drivers all had DX12 and I couldn't go further back without them being incompatible. Try also doing a DXDIAG on your system by typing dxdiag into the windows search bar, it should list the version of DX on your system.

Your logs do not indicate problem with directx but rather with your hardware or drivers.

I hope you do realize that all modern pc's run directx12.

Try enabling HVCI in Windows settings.

  • DX9 launch command used to work, idk if it still does.
That helped me in some earlier season when i had issues.

For now it seems to use DX11, if it had used DX12 my Ryzen system would performe way better than its doing now.

The game itself just lacks basic options, DX 9-12, FPS cap etc ( Ingame that is )

So currently I think from the start of S15, you can run Apex in DX12, but it's in beta. I actually came here because I am having this issue with DX12, but not DX11. Maybe intentionally launching it with the DX12 flag will work for you.

    In case anyone is curious:
    -eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json
