Hardcore is not possible in 2042 - constructive criticism to fix this.
There is simply no support for hardcore, very little support for Portal despite its incredible potential, and some extremely critical features that span beyond just HC/Portal that need to be implemented.
Currenly I'm running two portal HC rush servers every day and while it has been fun I've observed the below critical issues. These combined with other general issues have led me to end up going back and playing BF4 or other games rather than be able to really enjoy 2042. When members of my communities or those I hang around in ask me how 2042 is, I simply cannot reccomend they spend the money on it, and have to suggest they stick to BF4 or otherwise until these critical issues are resolved.
For a proper HC mode issues include:
- No team kill limit.
- No full mag reload.
- No map if minimap is disabled.
- Spotting still works from vehicle seats and soflam.
- Can't disable 3rd view vehicles.
- Can't disable kill cams.
- Can't make snipers a 1 hit kill without making some DMR 1 hit kill.
- Can't disable HUD without losing friendly indicators.
- No clue if who killed you or who you killed was enemy or friendly. Being able to see this or customize this is important.
Indirect issues related to a HC mode (emphasis on rush) include:
- No kill feed to notice chronic team killers on either team.
- No all chat for an admin to be able to better be informed of griefers on the other team.
- Portal admin kick and ban doesn't work sometimes for no apparent reason.
- Mini map when disabled takes HUD space up for no reason.
- Disabling HUD disables too much (particularly friendly indicators for HC). Customizing what elements of the HUD are visible would be huge for Portal and critical for HC.
- AI waste transport vehicles like RHIB boats. Only solution is no AI or faster respawn of vehicles. For infantry only mode this is problematic.
- AI with less than 100 hp tend to hide. Current work around is to increase dmg (around 170% is pretty close to bf3/4 HC) instead. You need to increase vehicle HP by the same amount unless you want vehicles to die super fast. This essentially nerfs the repair tool.
- An ability to disable weapons on vehicles would be great. For an infantry only mode the MAV or transport air would be nice but they have huge fire power. Same for the jeep etc. throwing a 30mm on it etc makes in unviable for infantry mode.
General critical features at the very top of my and my friends lists:
- No ability to change teams (and in HC rush in portal it doesn't alternate teams, you are stuck on attack/defend forever)
- No squad management.
- The two above mean its impossible to play w/ more than 3 friends plus their own issues.
- No score board, no deaths and essentially no kill feed.
- No all chat (removing all chat has done absolutely nothing to curb toxicity, but it does isolate players and further kills any community feel to the game)
- No persistent lobbies/servers for non-portal modes
- Armored vehicles particularly tanks and LAV types are incredibly painful to bother using, nearly everyone in the game now has the ability to damage/disable/stun vehicles, and on top of that vehicles were nerfed with sluggish movement, easily disabled parts, very slow and what I can only assume is intentional input lag for the turret, no longer have APS compared to other modern BFs (3, 4). Basically vehicles end up playing like the more recent COD game... absolutely terrible and not fun to play or kill (I loved playing as or hunting down tanks and such in BF3/4 but can't stand to even bother with them in 2042).
