It really is insane how random these network issues are. I wonder why EA/DICE are having such a tough time finding/fixing these issues?
- ATFGunr2 years agoLegend@TheseusJasonI’m going out on a limb here…. But I think it happens on purpose. If I’m having a good round, or the team is really dominant, I find the hit reg gets worse. I haven’t paid enough attention to it and only thought about it late last night. Has anyone noticed the hit reg is worse when rolling the other team? Or that the reg gets better when you’re losing? This is just a crazy theory, I freely admit that lol.
- Col_Larsen2 years agoNew Ace@sk1lld Hi - without knowing facts / coding issues - I can say what I think is main problem here. You have a server - we all connect to it from various places - different distances (different ping to server). A server need to cope with that so game is playable - so it averages things. You could setup ping limiters on servers and say 150 is limit. But then what about the VPN connections ? What do server see here - your connection from around the globe or the VPN jumpspot near server ? No doubt you still have tcp package that needs to travel long distance but how do you tell.
Can you block ip ranges that belongs to VPN providers ? Region control - as in you need to somehow state your region and then you are only allowed to play in that region ?
Then of course there is the crossplay thing - should it be removed ? I do understand console players have hard times against pc players (not to mention the cheat going on here). But network wise I do think console players do add to latency since you have extra layer of servers you need to go through (xbox live authentication / verification for online play).
So bottom line a lot is going on outside of EA/Dice hands. They do have the option to enforce rules since its their servers - but I think it is more tricky than we think. Ping limit and region control could be some of it ! - GrizzGolf2 years agoSeasoned Ace

Lot of things to balance.

Battlefield in general has always been bad for me. I recently stopped using wifi and that helped a bit. It's still not great. One game I feel like I can kill enemies and the next game its like they all have god mode and I die in one frame. I don't have this issue with other games. It's exclusively an EA issue. I play independent titles on Steam that don't have this issue.
- Alethes2 years agoSeasoned Ace@ATFGunr you might have a point... if it's due to chance or deliberate programming we'll never know...

When I see these kinds of things, I suspect I was already dead according to the server. And my inputs were being ignored. - RaginSam2 years agoSeasoned Ace

There seems to be a big discrepancy between what you see and what other players see at times. I wished that Dice would explain what's causing that to happen instead of telling us that it's been "fixed" in this upcoming patch.
I've played plenty of other games with much lower tick rates and they didn't feel as off as BF2042 does at times.
The other day I took damage before actually peeking the corner. I ran up to it like I was going to peek, stopped, and took damage while being completely behind cover. My guess is that it has something to do with some sort of server prediction? Or maybe the server thought I did go beyond the wall, and the tick updates are just too spread out to be accurate? It was really weird.
Dice had to sacrifice a lot to get that 128 player count. I have a feeling that there is something off with how players (client side) report themselves to the servers. Like it's not synced up well? With some players it's noticeably much worse. It's not as precise as it should be.
