@WedgeTornadoYeah the best is when you are Falck, who kills another Falck to be rezzed by a Falck that kills you, then you are rezzed by a Falck. It is beyond ridiculous.
It would not have been that hard to create two specialists, one for each faction, with the same specialty.Yeah it doesn't half kill the immersion that's for sure. 😀

@Ironhead841This reminds me of the "staff meetings" in the BF4 Battle-failed parody series (made during the darker days of BF4).
My question is, why would the American and Russian specialists be No-Pats?
- ATFGunr4 years agoLegend@UP_Hawxxeye Oh yah I know lol, since it’s made up anyways I figured I could riff 😉 China would not have been happy if they were made to be a bad guy. That’s what was so great about Firefly (yes I’m that old), the blend of western and eastern cultures is probably pretty close to our future.
- @ATFGunr I loved Firefly. My wife loved Jane so I told her that she see him in Full Metal Jacket then.
@WedgeTornado wrote:From what I see we shouldn’t certain ones be on each team? Boris, Falik, Rao, Paik be on the Russians and the others be on US? Something like that?
right now it makes no difference as both teams are the same specialist. Just the team Is different.
Follow the money!
2042 was rushed out of the door to please EA stakeholders and therefore they weren't given the budget and time to create different specialists for each team along with a whole host of staple features like traditional scoreboards, server browsers, fully fleshed out maps, vehicles and guns etc etc
They thought adding portal would make up for it and they could save resources and time by reusing older assets.
Stakeholders got their initial profit from release week sales and now Dice are having to pick up the pieces and are now spending time finishing the game off.
Looking at the scope of 2042 I think its reasonable to estimate the game needed another 2 years of development to achieve their ambitious goals.

@Tank2042ManIt is always the same issue when the short term profit is the priority.
The people on top at EA are not stupid, they have spread their risk on multiple games having done the math on how to stay profitable as to be right by the stakeholders.
Of course that is not good enough for us who expect ART instead of a stockmarket profit. This is one of the reasons it is really bad for games to belong to an entity with many franchises under their care. They feel safe to give less than proper care for at least most of them.
A small dev firm that focuses on one title is much more likely to put all they got on that one project, this why why CDPR was also good until they became too big after Witcher 3. - Anobix4 years agoSeasoned Ace
@CountSero wrote:Imho the Story is simple and interesting you need only take some time.
So, a Quick Summary:
- Natural disasters getting wors
- Many countries a destroyed or flooded
- the ecosystem has been hit hard and many people are starving and on the run
- Economy is no longer what you know
- they are not really welcome everywhere as refugees ans they call tehmself No-Pat (short for Non-Patriated)
- The only “Super Powers” which are left are USA and Russia
- Both want to take advantage of the situation and make the other responsible for the world situation.
- But they are not fighting for them self they are Hiring the No-Pats to fight their wars.
- So, this is a proxy war
- The No-Pats decide for which site their fight related to their believing’s.
- So that’s why there is no real factions, armies , uniforms, ranks etc.
- This is why you can find specialist on both sides.
little teaser:
if you read between the line while reading and watching the backstory you know that there is a third party involved which is causing a lot of trouble. Which is causing that these two “Super Powers” getting more and more triggered. So, this third party is using chaos in the world to their own Advantage.
This was only a short summary from my mind (so therefore no guarantee of completeness or correctness)
See you on the Battlefield
Alternatively, if the game was a Battle Royale, they wouldn't need countries that are superpowers with US and Russia... and instead, you'd be ending up fighting over a wasteland with your squad of no-pats that don't have a country affiliation. But, then the pivot happened and shoehorning everything into being a 'traditional' BF game went down and they had to come up with 2 sides... okay... US and RU, done *rubs hands together and goes home for the day*.

Well to be fair the Ukrainians and their foreign mercenaries are being used by the US as No-Pats in this proxy war the US are fighting against Russia at the moment.
So that's one part of the scenario that works.

No, the Ukrainians call the Ukraine as the country. No Pats would have no country to call home.
