@Adamonic
What if the game would be released now... Would it be a better game... Yes. Many things have been improved. But the character of the game hasn't changed and that is the biggest concern I have and not something, some patches can fix.
If I need to give a score at release in comparison to today, I would have given it a 6 to 7 out of 10. More in the 6 direction. Not only the design decisions were bad, also it was bugged, it was not fun to play.
Now... I would give it a 8, what sound pretty solid but for a 9, it needs fundamental changes, something I don't think DICE is willing to do. The effort would be too high and nobody knows, if this will increase the sales.
The maps, half of them are still really bad (they are working on it!) and I am in good hopes, that all maps will be improved to a solid level. The technical issues have decreased, the balancing is much better than last year (not perfect), even the performance is a little bit better.
But what bothers me the most and is maybe the hardest part to implement: The fun. I am very frustrated sometimes, when a bug kills me (hello parachute!), or when the game give me a spawn point directly beside an enemy and I die without any chance, I spawn in a vehicle, which is getting destroyed one second after my spawn, when the game begins to stutter, without a reason and I can't aim properly, when I throw a smoke grenade and it takes forever to throw it, or when I finally get smoke, when the helicopters are unkillable, when I can't spawn at a point, when I can't aim because my weapon has a grenade launcher (please use Liz and the SCAR, this combination is unplayable!), when super bullets hit me... I can go on and on and on. Additional, the movement doesn't feel as fluid as BFV...
At the moment I play Overwatch 2 and I have to say, the game is not perfect as well, but this game feels polished, it has a flow, it feels smooth... If you join a BF2042 match, it feels like an old game, everything feels delayed...
And at the end, some gameplay decisions are still not mine, the TTK feels inconsistent (sometimes I kill my enemy's incredibly fast, sometimes the whole magazine is not enough), the focus on vehicles, the lack of teamplay...
Many things have improved but for a really good game, you need more, than some patches. Still a pretty solid game, you can have fun with. But nothing (and this is crucial I think!) I would spend money in the shop for. The game itself has no future, why should I buy skins, when I know, that the support for the game is at a bare minimum (1 map, 1 specialist every 4 month... for 1 year!) and the playerbase is decreasing? If I enjoy a game, if I love to play it, then... maybe then I would consider to make some micro transactions... sometimes just to support the developer for the good work. With BF2042, I payed more than enough with the Gold edition.
