Re: The case FOR specialists

@BaronVonGoonAt least to me, the specialists fix a major class balance problem that was especially prevalent in BF1 and BFV with some classes being a lot better than others.

If this image had been created more recently, the Action man would be having FIVE Bazookas instead of three Panzerfausts.

    @UP_HawxxeyeLOL at ACTION MAN.

I see the potential benefits of Specialists for sure, but I also hope EA DICE understand that they have effectively doubled down on the "meta" game...

With the classes only being differentiated by their ability and trait, they will need to make each one individually appealing as well as ensuring that there are no clearly superior weapons... essentially they have a lot more balancing in front of them and I have never been impressed by their skills there.

@carsono311In pure meta based on the beta, people will favor the hook man for what I heard was better ADADAD movement and the hook that can be used both as a tool and a WEAPON (?!?!).
Otherwise the doctor lady to have both healing and ammo.

Personally I am always leaning towards Casper, the recon guy because most of the time what lacks is providing the team with intel.

@UP_HawxxeyeYeah, Mackay's original trait "Nimble" was simply being faster. Which is obviously quite useful...

EA DICE did tone him down with the new Nimble though:

Still quite useful, but not over the top either.  I suspect the Specialist tweaking will be an ongoing thing, but I do believe it will be possible to find a sweet spot for each one... eventually.

In my opinion this nimble trait about moving faster while ADS etc is super meta and should not be a trait. Because every ADADAD-ADHD-YOLO-MLG performance nutter will pick only him

I recall that in the beta Mackay had instead a trait about aiming better while on the wires.

@UP_Hawxxeye Yeah, I am concerned about ADAD spam as well.

I think EA DICE probably has some ideas for modifying the traits and will just need to tweak them into a good place.

@UP_Hawxxeye Going back to the BF3/4 classes would have fixed action man. Going back to BF2 classes also would have fixed action man. I argue getting rid of classes in favor of COD's create-a-class is creating far more problems that it addresses.

Several argue that specialists more or less are the same as classes. In that case, they now rise from 4 to 20+. And dice still need to invent 16+. It's a terrible idea, which can turn into ridiculous specialists and a nightmare to balance. Specialists make sense in Hazard Zone, but I can not see the point in other gamemodes at all.

    - Only counting BF4, BF1 and BFV; over 3000 hours (been playing ever since BF1942, not even wanna think of how many hours that would be).
    - No, I play "my role"; <3 Support till I die.
    - I don't mind more classes as long as it contributes to the squad/team playfeel.

For me it's being my own soldier, not some operator with a whole backstory already...  Which might have been different if they used legacy characters though, such as the lads from Bad Company or even our pal Gunther making a comeback.

@ragnarok013It is the BF4 design specifically that is balanced and versatile with the classwide carbines, shotguns and DMRs + the recon C4. BF3 was less so.

But alas DICE wanted something new for the sake of something new and it still feels like an improvement from BF1/V

@UP_Hawxxeye I actually feel quite the opposite. I felt the DMRs being all class in BF4 reduced the role for the recon class and felt the SMGs being all class in BF3 was better so all classes had a CQC option which the recon class lacked in BF4. Carbines being all class was good in BF4 IMO.

@ragnarok013 Agree bf3 had the best class balance of all the bf games I've played, as you say giving all classes access to close range weapons meant every class could be useful at any range, the whole class balance in general was spot on the rock paper scissors balance was perfect.

@ragnarok013My memory might fail me but the DMRs in BF4 were not really used much because they were nerfed compared to BF3 due to being class wide.
If I wanted to make a long range shot I would always use a bolt action for that chance of the ohk headshot. Otherwise the M4 carbine was the gun for me.

Edit: I just remembered that BF4 has the most awkward  trajectories for the BA rifles. They would fly above the  barrel level and then start dropping like artillery.

@UP_Hawxxeye Going by the amount of pew, pew, pew that goes on, I would suggest that DMRs are still well used.

@UP_Hawxxeye no DMRs were and still are incredibly popular in BF4 with non-recon classes due to their power so if they were nerfed they're still incredibly good. I constantly hear the "crack crack crack" of DMR fire directed at me as it has a very distinctive sound and I still play BF4 a lot. The Community used to complain on the forums and in TS3 about the ubiquity of that sound in BF4 since DMRs were used so much.

I can just agree on that.

This unique sound you realized right away what DMR rounds were shot at you.

It was a nice change sometimes to play them, and they're actually pretty good if you know how to handle them with the single fire mode.

Pretty good damage for the middle rate of fire they had. 🙌 in BF1 DMRs even became my favorite.

    Greets,

SVD-12 to me is hands down the best powerhouse weapon in BF4. Okay did spend a lot of time with M39.

    I like them a lot.

    CZ-3A3 is insane PDW.

Saiga 12k with duckbill buckshot mmm.

Compact .45 or UNICA as pistol.

    M416/Sar21/AUG A3 etc.

    M240, PKP... 🙂

    L115, M40A6... 🙂

Honestly carbines are not that ... well AKU- 12...

Yeah, there was a lot of uniquely handled and rewarding/limited weaponry to choose from.

For all you had to change your playstyle a bit. (DMR -- low rate of fire, but the punch and range, but that is slighly negated in Mk11 which is quite light, so you can use it as shorter range faster ROF).

A lot to love about BF4 in memory (and actually still actively playing it).

Rock paper scissors, not single person army please.

    I guess... I think
