After reading through all of the replies, the summed of consensus seems to be 2042 will be a CoD clone with a BF skin. Personally, I disagree. I, albeit bias, call 2142 the best in the series. BF4 had a lot of easter eggs for 2142. The rail gun, titan construction, etc. 2142, the EU Coalition vs the PAC.
What I see with a lot of the specialists is what I've seen in other games. The female medic specialist? The doc in R6: Siege. The Spiderman specialist? That's already been used in BF. The Rocky (flying squirrel) Specialist? Just a cartoon character, he's just lacking Bullwinkle. The Russian sentry dude? Pretty similar to Tachanka in R6: Siege, albeit not auto turret.
While I'm not a fan of the Bad Company series, it did introduce the Frostbite engine to the Battlefield franchise and it defines, keyword, defines, the franchise. It is one of the few sandbox FPS games to create craters from explosions. The few games with buildings that can be collapsed and destroyed. And the engine isn't just about graphics, it's also about sound. One of the few games where, when a sniper is taking shots at you, you don't hear the shot until it's already hit you. Or if a tank is 900 meters out, you won't hear the tank until the shot is 3/4 of the way to you. It takes a lot of work to create an engine like that for a video game.
And answer this question for me. What's the difference between BF no vehicle conquest like Metro in BF3/4 and CoD Domination? Other than CoD Domination being on a smaller map with less players? None, zippo. There is no difference. It's players running around, capturing points and slaughtering each other. The vehicles is what makes the difference in BF. Jets, helicopters, support helicopters, tanks, BMPs, ATVs, Technicals and the destruction of the environment with weather effects.
Most of this is my opinion of course, however, my question in the last statement is an irrefutable fact.
