Small sample size, I know, but I haven't been able to find anyone (in Oceania) using VOIP.
This forum made such a big deal about it, so why don't players use it?
The discussion about the EA survey has caused me to ruminate on this. I have my own thoughts, but I would like to hear other points-of-view.
The VoIP in game does not work as intended. Blocked players are auto assigned to your squads and don’t stay blocked, muted players don’t stay muted game after game, and then you have the disruptive players looking for attention that do everything but actually focus on playing the game.
The in-game VoIP experience as it stands right now is like using a public restroom. You walk in being respectful to the establishment but before you’re done someone walks up to the stall directly next to you and then proceeds to drunk pee all over your shoes.
I didn’t want to subject myself to anymore punishment and just turned it off entirely.

Possibly because the vast majority don't care/didn't want it but those that did were very loud about it?

Define "we". I for one never asked for VOIP. I need diversity in the game: a server browser, an end to playing the same map over an over again against my will, more weapons and better maps no VIOP. I turned it off after the 1st game they put in in. You'll hear darth vader breathing or a kid screaming, no one wants that.
I'm in the United States. Its the same here. The whining and moaning for in-game chat was at epic levels on Reddit and on sites such as this one. Now that DICE has put in the work and added it after all of the complaining guess what? I never (or lets say hardly) hear anyone using it. And I have watched more than a few streamers try to talk to people using the in-game chat and you might get one person responding once in a blue moon.
I still see people using the text chat feature where the messages appear in the upper left hand corner of the screen. This is one of the reasons I ignore chronic complaints over small things concerning this game and don't take them seriously.
Dude, I love your comments. Straight to the point. I wish they would stop kowtowing to the whiners that spend more time crying online than they do actually even playing the game. The people that sit online all day and cry are NOT the actual people playing the game.
I play in Europe and VOIP has never been used in any BF-game I have played.
In Europe we speak many different languages and using VOIP makes no sense, at least not when playing with randoms.
Who ever asked for it is a mystery to me, what region of the world (besides perhaps the US), have players that all speak the same language?
@DuaneDibbleyIn Europe a lot of people are not that good at speaking English, perhaps the younger generations are better, but in some countries, English is not really used much.
Many European countries translate films/tv-shows to their own language (using voice-actors) and you do not have much "contact" with other languages than your own, unless you use the internet (and uses the english/american part of the internet).
