Why does this game take so long to update?

@RitualMurdererto make changes to any file, first you need to check the hash and the data table with the patch (to do this, you need to read all the files, find the ones you need, and then apply the changes to them at the end - overwrite them). This is how it is done in many games. The update may be 5GB, but it affects a lot of different files and asking for 4 times more space than the patch itself.
Here's an example SSD - read speed 1.2 GB/s. Sometimes it was 2.4 GB/s.

The fact that it sometimes takes a very long time to update a game can have many different causes. Think about:

• There is not enough CPU power left to perform the update properly and quickly, so make sure to keep an eye on your background tasks.
• Your HDD or SSD is not very fast, is already very full, or is already quite old.
• General hardware and/or software problems,
• Your internet connection is not very fast, or it is very busy.
• And in some cases, there are problems with the update servers. But if that is the case, then everyone would be affected by this, which turns out not to be the case.

I have the same issue. The latest update has already taken more than 2 hours and is still sitting at 91% after which it will verify files probably and take another half an hour or more. 

I update other games too, mostly from Steam and they take max 10 minutes to finish, no matter the size of the update, as it downloads quickly. 

• I have an i7 Processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM and only a chrome window open. I had left the PC idle just for the update, with chrome closed. 
• I have a 2TB SSD with which has space. The drive with games is 90% full though.
• Internet connection is 200 MBps

Clearing the cache of the EA app usually fixes these things. Does that help?

Its the EA App.

Since I had to switch from Origin to the EA App, download speeds have been abysmal. It takes ages to prepare it. Takes ages to verify. Takes ages to download it. Takes ages to apply and finalise. Small downloads that might've taken a few minutes on Origin take well over two hours on the EA App, and unlike Origin, if you pause it, it has a tendency to start the whole thing over again. It also interferes with general browsing, making it choppy, which Origin did not do. 

Clearing cache or whatever on it also did not rectify this issue.
