1st time BF player today on BF 6...help

.

I'm struggling a bit with this game.  After investing about an hour into trying to get a game session going after launch, I managed to get into the game and play a few training and then a few Multiplayer matches.

My experience consisted of a LOT of running around the map and a lot of respawning after being destroyed.  Wasn't able to get close enough to anything (objectives or enemy) to capture/target and so ended up walking away from it for now.  The closest I got to killing enemy was with a Sniper class but even then all were missed shots.

How do I locate myself on the map?  Sure, I found the icon on the mini-map that represents my guy but it's tiny, hard to find and doesn't really show direction...I need quick reference to my location (and objectives) all the time...especially on these huge, new-to-me maps.  I wanna glance at the map, see my position and know immediately where to go next.

Why does the spawn screen seem to randomly allow me to spawn at my chosen spot?  What is the trick to the I-choose-my-spawn screen with respect to game play?  By the time I could reach a target objective (A-E), it would already be captured.  The next objective seemed to always be on the other side of the map.

Given the frequency of respawn, I know the enemy can see me easily pretty much all the time...

What am I missing?  Really want to enjoy this game but right now it's just frustrating.  Are any of you aware of a guide Online to BF newbies?

    Played a bit more....

    1. The "mini-map" down lower left of UI is helpful, not the map I was referring to above however.  The big, full screen map was what I was referring to above.  Very difficult to locate myself on that map as it's a tiny non-directional icon that I must hunt for.
    2.  When I spawn into a Tank, 9 times out of 10 I'm apparently just a rider.  If I switch seats (A), I'm still just a rider...can't aim, shoot or drive the tank...just move my camera viewpoint around.  I know how to jump out/off, but how do I enter a tank and use it as a weapon?
    3. The spawn-in screen...There's usually a timer.  Once it gets to zero, what is the goal of this screen?  Usually when I click on a spot to spawn in, it just beeps and does nothing.  If I click on a green player, sometimes I spawn near that player but often times I get the beep and NOTHING happens.  Sometimes I spawn in BumF*ck far, far from the action.  How am I supposed to use the spawn screen to my advantage as a player?  Should it not act to mitigate the distances between/among objectives and fellow combatants?  I really can't tell the difference between my choosing explicit spawn in points one after the other until one works and my just randomly hitting the button while randomly moving the pointer around the map until I get the spawn in.  That is BS.
    4. Large maps with the 60+ players I find that: a) spawn in is a joke, b) objectives are so far away (spawn issue?) that if I can reach them, I get killed right away and end up far, far away again.  Nobody seems to respawn my dead character so that is also off the table most of the time.  What is the winning play strategy on these maps/modes.
    5. Small maps where respawn does NOT involve the choose-a-spot-to-respawn-window:  I find this feels more like a proper match as the opposing forces are smaller and no f*ckn around with the spawn screen's seemingly random nature.  I don't have to hike for lengthy stretches of time to reach the action.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks!

  • Its all learning the maps, it can be a slow process on the bigger maps, you tend to learn where people go so you can anticipate where enemy will come from.

There are jeeps and quads all over the place to make getting around quicker.

Don't use the big map, look around at the capture points or for your squad, try to move to them or head to a capture point that is being taken.

If a flag is being taken you can't spawn on it, you can only spawn if your team hold the flag, you can spawn on your squad (green players).

Is it an empty tank or was it blue/green it may of had a driver already.

Like I say its mostly down to learning the maps and how they play.

    1. There is a directional graphic, but it's a cone, not an arrow. You'll learn to spot it, but you'll also get to a point where you don't need to, when your map knowledge increases. It doesn't take too long.
      2. If you want to be a driver or gunner in a tank, if it's the beginning of the game, you can sprint to it and get, but it's RNG where it places you at the start of the game so you might not get it. If you're in game, you can wait in the spawn screen for it to become available in the HQ and spawn in it. If a lot of people are wanting the same thing, it's luck of the draw, you have to be patient to get certain vehicles, especially air vehicles.
      3. It's not BS, it works like this.. first, the timer has to count down, it's not instant respawns (in most modes). Then when the timer is done, you can spawn... on your squad, a flag  your team captured, spawn beacons and the IFV/transport heli if there are open seats. If the squadmate you're trying to spawn on is in combat, you can't spawn. Wait until their icon is green and you're good to go, and you'll spawn with a few feet of them. If you spawn on a flag, it'll put you near that cap zone, in a random location. Will you sometimes randomly be placed with your **bleep** to an enemy? Yes, for sure, but they do a decent job of mitigating that. If you spawn on the IFV or transport heli, you're in that vehicle. If you are clicking to spawn on someone or something and they get killed, the cursor might jump somewhere else and you might have a hike ahead of you, which is definitely BS.

      4. You have to learn how spawns work to make sure you're always close to the action, but not necessarily right in it so you die instantly, or so far away that you're in a running simulator. Try Breakthrough, as it's linear and the HQ moves up as you advance, or are advanced upon. It'll be easier to learn the game with a more straightforward idea of where you are and where the enemy is coming from. It's also a great way to learn the maps extremely well. Then when you move onto conquest, you'll know every nook and cranny of a map.

      5. You can totally play domination, TDM, King of the Hill if you don't want to worry about spawning, but you can get that with Breakthrough and Rush as well, with the former giving you some bigger map/warfare experiences.

For a new player, the universal rule applies, stick with your squad, and if your survivability seems low, spawn near masses of blueberries aka teammates. You might luck out and get a few good support players to revive you as you fight. Literally every aspect of this game has somewhat of a learning curve, gunplay, vehicle play, spawning, when to revive, where to place your gadgets. It makes if very satisfying when you master something, and you see it impact a fight or an entire match.

    .

Regarding sticking with the squad.  Yeah...problem there is I'm playing alone.  Maybe that's the real problem here is that this game isn't geared for the dude playing solo and so my experience will always be sub-optimal therefore not enjoyable and really not worth the cost of admission.  I upgraded my hardware to play this game too which is starting to feel like a double whammy.  Nobody seems to be talking via game chat so I'm missing a huge part of the overall experience.

Not sure I'll continue at this point as it's a bit like trying to enjoy the symphony without good hearing or an air show being mostly blind.

I appreciate you all giving some pointers and advice...Thanks!
