My guess is that Dice just wants to force cross play onto people. And their server/player allocation algorithms are unfortunately not getting fixed.
I had a similar issue in BF2042. I turned off crossplay (PC) and tried to que into Conquest. Would load into 1/128, this was early in season one mind you, and I'd sit and wait, and wait, and wait. Nothing. Go to the discord, ask about it, other people on PC with crossplay off also reporting the same. You mean to tell me at peak times (evenings on tuesdays with new missions) that there was NOT 128 PC players with crossplay off?
Probably is more economical to run servers with crossplay than running extra servers for specific platforms.
