Namely their counter measures and their idiotic ability to be unable to be locked onto at low altitude. It's borderline impossible to take down aircraft in general due to them being able to pop flare...

I've generally found that decent Jets will evade the Stinger pretty easily, but Helis are easier to take down. It really takes coordination with other Engineers and friendly Aircraft to take out the enemy team's Aircraft effectively, but it can be problematic.
Until I hopped into an AA Vehicle. The secondary weapon you start with and can't change will force a Jet to pop flares; you will reload way, way faster than a Jet's flares cooldown. Letting you take them down pretty quickly, even faster if you do have coordination with other friendly Aircraft and Engineers. Then, once you unlock the High Velocity AA Shell, you can shoot them down with that fairly easily too.
I would actually argue that the AAs feel incredibly strong and are very easily capable of wiping out and then spawn camping the enemy team's entire Air Force completely alone.
Ill have to give the high velocity shells a try then, thank you for the advice.
