Assault Class Role in BF6

Hey Everyone, I've been having quite a blast playing BF6. Have over 100 hours in the game and am enjoying most aspects of it. However I would like to pose an important question... What is the role of an assault player in BF6?

Sure we could argue that the weapon sling means that assaults should stick to defending CQB objectives but I could do the same or better with recon and a shotgun. We could also argue their role is to establish flanks and breaches but these are in the Grand scheme of things few and far between when destroying an entire building with C4 does the same thing.

Personally I feel assault is quite a selfish class, I'm not incentivized to stick to my squad at all, nor do I have many ways of earning points in my role compared to other classes. It's certainly the worst class in terms of score per minute in general. So what is the plan here Dice?

On the opposite end of the spectrum we have SUPPORT, which now has become an amalgamation of medic and support which is also a massive departure from realism. As a support player I feel tremendous pressure, since when I'm trying to hold a line with an LMG I'm also forsaking my role to revive teammates which requires me to move around the battlefield freely all the time. This feels like a very badly implemented system and makes support split into 2 subclasses, support and medic which can't be done efficiently at the same time. This issue is exacerbated further when in closed weapons lobbies showing that those are merely a bandaid for purists and closed weapons was not thought of when considering weapon roles and balance.

The experiment was worth a shot but it is time to reconsider what each class should be doing on the battlefield and whether the classes are playing as intended. There is no room in battlefield for classes that offer nothing but kills to their team, there should always be something else to do, battlefield has always given players a choice and assault feels completely one dimensional compared to all other classes.

  • Yes. Bring back my c4 while we're at it. Sincerely, a Support player every Battlefield since BF3.

  • Not a fan of the changes they made to classes.  Its like they got the message we wanted classes back after the 2042 fiasco, but then decided to throw them in blender and see where the skills/tools landed instead of truly listening and bringing us our BF3/BF4 experience.  That said...Assault is pretty much for 1 thing...rushing the objective (I believe they can take bases quicker and are designed to withstand more aggressive combat.  Oh, and apparently drop the spawn becon for the party (I've already made a recon rant on this topic).  The primary reason I like Assault is that it can carry 2 primary weapons, but overall, I feel like Assault and Recon don't really bring much to the party.  In general I feel like all the classes save maybe engineer feel like they are missing something to solidify their identify and enjoyment for me.

This, all of this. Assault is fun but lacks teamwork oriented gadgets. Recon only has spotting left (spawn beacon is gone). Support is a powerhouse that has both ammo, healing, and defibs while missing the fun of C4.

In my opinion, either give back the healing and defibs to Assault, or make a fifth class focused on healing and revert the changes to the Support class. So we would then have Assault, focused on pushing objectives, Support focused on LMG, ammo and C4, Recon focused on spotting and spawn beacon (yes bring it back), Engineer focused on vehicle repair and RPGs, and then a fifth class focused on healing called Medic.
