Battlefield 6: A Call of Duty Clone That Betrays the Series

Battlefield 6 is a profound disappointment for longtime fans, turning what was once a hallmark of large-scale, tactical warfare into a shameless Call of Duty clone. The Battlefield series has always stood out for its relative realism, emphasis on strategy, and teamwork, but EA has completely abandoned this identity in favor of a fast-paced, shallow, instant-gratification style that mirrors its competitor.

One of the most egregious issues is the automatic and now absurdly fast health regeneration, a mechanic that not only mimics Call of Duty but strips away any sense of strategic consequence from gameplay. Instead of encouraging cautious play, reliance on teammates, or the critical role of the medic, this feature transforms Battlefield 6 into a chaotic run-and-gun fest where survival requires no thought or coordination. Every match feels like a mindless deathmatch straight out of Call of Duty, lacking the depth that once defined the series.

Shame on you, EA, for sacrificing Battlefield’s uniqueness in a greedy chase for profit and mainstream appeal! Instead of innovating or honoring the series’ legacy, you’ve stripped it of its soul.

unfortunately I have to agree, Im an old BF player(Im not old just 23) and I have around 1000-1500 hrs in BF4. I didnt play beta but I watched all of it and some part feels like battlefield, drag fallen wounded, lots of explosion and demolition but the other part.. disappointed. physics looks like COD games and it doesnt worth to play. I hope they make a huge change and make it BATTLEFIELD again. MAKE BATTLEFİELD 4 + BATTLEFİELD 3 COMBİNATİON but with more tactics and more chaos. please dont ruin it, this is your last chance

Battlefield stood out for its authentic atmosphere, not because it was relatively realistic. There hasn't been a single Battlefield game from Battlefield 1942 to Battlefield 6 that was even relatively realistic. It has always been an arcade experience that might occasionally use some features such as destruction or bullet physics simulation to add a bit of extra depth to the gameplay.

Battlefield 6 isn't a major departure from a game like Battlefield 3. Yet pretty much every Battlefield game has threads like these that blames Battlefield for being a COD clone.

One of the most egregious issues is the automatic and now absurdly fast health regeneration

While I certainly agree that automatic health regeneration is too effective and they should slow it down a bit, it certainly isn't a feature that defines the game. There have been plenty of Battlefield games that combined the Assault kit with some way to heal yourself like a medic bag. So what you'd get is 70% of the players would choose to play Assault.

In theory if you slow down or remove health regeneration, you'd think people would go to their Medic teammates and request heals, but that doesn't happen in practice. People will just pick the class that allows themselves to heal, it's that simple. Health regeneration as counter-intuitive as it sounds actually makes sure that you can actually play other classes more effectively as well.

The idea that Battlefield stood out for its emphasis on strategy and teamwork is a joke as well. Even in Battlefield 2, where you had 6 player squads and a commander that could assign specific instructions to each squad, the vast majority of games would consist of people that didn't even listen to the commander or their squad leader for that matter. The only exception were clans, that will work together regardless of the game they are playing.

this feature transforms Battlefield 6 into a chaotic run-and-gun fest where survival requires no thought or coordination

I found during the beta that people tend to get themselves in trouble because they'd run in the open without a second thought. They'd get mowed down by a prone LMG within seconds. At least in comparison to Battlefield 2042,  Battlefield 6 is significantly slower and more deliberate. You can run around a lot, but for you to survive, you must also know when to stop running and watch your step, especially because you couldn't play by sound like you could in Battlefield 2042 (Footsteps were not sufficiently audible).

When I ran into a larger group of people I'd die instantly as well, because the TTK was quite low. Sticking to your teammates was still quite important. Meaning that survival requires both thought and coordination. Health regeneration doesn't really help to prevent instant lethal damage. Health regeneration stops when you're being suppressed, so suppressive fire is also still quite effective.

Unfortunately I agree. But in the same breath I acknowledge that it is a small sacrifice to pay to keep the series alive.

    The competition is unforgiving.

Time after time I see on Discord, Reddit, X, YT, here, people saying "I've been playing the BF franchise since the dinosaurs were around... and BF6 is not the same vibe because <insert gripe/issue/fault/legitimate complaint>".

There were no Fortnite, Apex, Overwatch, PUBG, Finals, etc, back then.

    This is what Battlefield is up against: {courtesy of Perplexity}

There was only CoD and CS back then.

In essence: EA/DICE must retake market share by any means possible—while attempting to please the 'original veterans' of the series.

Smaller maps? Running and gunning more often? Faster reheal? Reactive rather than proactive? So be it, if the BF atmosphere is still there.

Yes dude agreed. Also the matchmaking system after every match, the announcer voice and soldier lines, the ping system replacing the spotting system, the reload animations seeming really tactile, the general goofy theme it has going on, the radio call outs, all screams COD dna,

The arcadey aircraft physics seems as if it’s been developed by cod devs who only have experience with cod helicopter physics, and thats their attempt at Battlefield physics? In the beta, I hate how the jet leveled off when using the laser guided missile camera, and the attack chopper how it automatically increases in lift when tilting forward?
Definitely doesn’t feel designed and thought out by experienced DICE devs.

Your analysis is only partially correct.

I do believe they aare not going the direction of 4 but compared to bf3, they actually got most of the core conquest experience. Rush... well.. we dont talk about rush.

The infantry experience is actually not that bad, IF THEY WOULD KEEP CLOSED WEAPONS but the issues lie in the look aand feel of the game.

Battlefield "looks" like COD now. And it sucks they did that, but overall these small things are not huge. BF6 seems to be on the right path.

VEHICLES tho, omg, gound vehicles aarae just BARELY correct, anaad Air was a missssss,

THIS is the problem you are calling out. I play bf4 and immediately know this is not gonna be bf4 like, but I think it will be good. But BF7, all the minor cracks in this game, will become major. It will tear the franchise apart.

This is the sad truth, we WILL get one good game, and then we will lose this franchise to **bleep**ty cod devs.

  • Honestly this game doesn't feel like Call of Duty to me. It feels more to me like Medal of Honor a game I like.
