Servers: We are constantly forced into EU servers with high ping because local infrastructure is still broken.
Netcode: Getting killed behind cover and hits not registering is the new "standard" for us.
Experience: The constant packet loss and jitter make competitive play impossible.
Other titles have stable local servers; why can't we get the same?
It is a real shame that EA have taken this action as it totally impacts the gameplay for an online shooter. The lowest latency I've recorded is to EU based servers at 122ms, whereas I can play a different EA title FC27 and get 21ms using the same console (PS5 Pro) and same wired ethernet connection on Du (fibre: 860Mbps down - 790Mbps up) here in Dubai, UAE. What's really crazy is my colleague has a PC and gets a way better latency (20-30ms). I've tried with cross-platform on or off, but it doesn't make a difference. It's a shame they don't give us the option to host or lease our own Middle East server. Very disappointing.
The infrastructure is not broken (well, it may be being broken by current events, but that’s a different story), they closed the Bahrain servers due to lack of players in the Middle East. And yes, it makes the game very painful to play. I’m in Jordan, so not too far from Europe, but with a lag of 60-65ms, I feel I’m constantly on the losing end of a very buggy experience.
Player retention is not going to be turned around at this stage. I’m not sure if its possible to improve the netcode in a way that makes it more playable for the slightly higher pings without being unfair to EU natives, but barring that, it is what it is. And from what I gather, it’s not like DICE is the top développer when it comes to quality netcode.
EA has closed tons of severs like severs in Korean and HongKong, I also want to know when they will be back.
