Battlefield has lost its soul

I’ve played Battlefield since BF2, BF3, BF4, Bad Company, and BF5. It used to be tactical, team-based, with room to think and play together.

Now it’s just chaos. Everyone runs and jumps around like in Call of Duty, there’s no teamwork, the maps are too small, and the server lag makes everything worse. You’re alive for maybe five seconds before someone wipes you out from nowhere.

Battlefield used to have soul, strategy and atmosphere. Now it’s all gone — and for long-time players like me, that’s heartbreaking.

    Yep. It's different.

I've played with the same squad of folks since BF2 and we all feel this is just too chaotic to be much fun. It's frustrating and annoying and doesn't feel much like BF.

It seems to be made to be much more accommodating to twitch 'skills' than to thoughtful tactical play.

It's partly the players, of course - you can't rely on your team to be playing the objectives or even watching out for team mates - but even that is because of the kind of players this game is intended to be attracting.

But it's mostly the game. The map design and the gunplay and the revive speed and the healing speed and the movement and and and... It's all geared for run-twitch-kill play.

In BF2, 3, 4 and 1 we were always able to make our team work be effective even if we weren't all great with gunplay and reflexes (we aren't bad at that, just not great). Twitch gameplay is always an advantage, but team play was too.

It feels like nothing matters in BF6 but playing like a headless chicken with ADHD. Reduce the recoil as much as you can and abuse the movement tech metas and you win.

I don't just play Battlefield. I can succeed in high-speed games, but I don't want to in Battlefield. That isn't the way Battlefield is supposed to play.

EA/DICE have done their best to ruin this franchise. BF5 wasn't too bad (but was so disappointing after BF1 that I didn't play it). BF2042 was awful and a clear failed attempt to go 'hero shooter' and attempt mass popularity, yet here we are again with EA/DICE attempting mass popularity, ignoring what made Battlefield a distinct and loved franchise, and ruining it in the process.

If they don't want to make Battlefield, how about start a new IP? Sell Battlefield to someone else who does want to make a Battlefield actual Battlefield fans would enjoy.

Not to mention the Olympic style bunny hopping.

" It definitely has that Call of Duty vibe — which makes sense, since it’s being made by people who came from CoD"

And that is EXACTLY the problem right there. But hey, don't expect anything better, this is exactly how they like it.

God forbid there should be any Strategy, Planning, let alone any hint of PTFO going on anytime soon.

I fear this my last BF game.

If I wanted to play CoD then I would have grabbed a Cod Game in the first place.

These people seem utterly incompetent and clearly do not learn from any mistakes whatsoever.

Exactly this shouldn't be necessary. Yet in BF6 it is, due to the points the OP mentioned.

    On point! Couldn't agree more!

That’s only half true. I often play with my squad and we really try to be tactical, but the original poster is right. It’s not the same kind of chaos we were used to in previous Battlefield titles, and it definitely has that Call of Duty vibe — which makes sense, since it’s being made by people who came from CoD. And I'm not even mentioning the terrible TTK and TTD. I still have some hope, but I often feel frustrated playing a game I paid 100 euros for.

this might be hard to hear but i'd suggest get some friends or make some new ones and create dedicated squads.

the whole game will feel different with proper comminucation and team play
