Battlefield 2042 already has pure AI modes for casual players, yet with the current TTK and match environment, even “casual” play feels punishing. Before launch, Portal was advertised as a major pillar of the game. Now it’s practically dead. Part of that is because Portal kills don’t progress career stats, and another big part is that people used it to farm weapon attachments — which is a systems design problem, not a player problem. Attachment progression is poorly designed. Unlocking core attachments takes too long, and essential items like extended magazines are locked far too late. Playing without attachments feels bad, which creates a vicious cycle: weaker loadouts lead to worse performance, which slows progression even more. Now Portal can’t be used to progress weapons, the core game balance is still rough, and new or average players are left with no reasonable way to catch up. That’s not a healthy ecosystem. For reference, fully unlocking a weapon in 2042 requires around 360 kills including AI. That number alone shows how grind-heavy the system is, especially under the current balance.
Agreed on all points. Especially in regards to weapon unlocks. Suppressors are a huge part of my gameplay as they keep my signature off the minimap. If I want to use a new gun, I’m constantly getting killed until I’m FAR into the level 20’s because I cant play the way I usually do with a suppressed weapon.
i also have a HUGE issue with all the cartoonish, CoD like camo patterns and skins. I miss the days of the gritty, realistic and down to earth equipment, colors, and camouflage for weapons and uniforms. Not to mention the RIDICULOUS masks and skulls on everything, it’s silly and looks childish. I also have to say, maybe unpopular, I’m really upset that I can’t at least have the option of changing the gender of my operator, I unlocked the 2042 battlepass skins for BF6 and having to hear women’s voices shriek and scream for a medic is really disappointing, same with the standard NATO engineer, I would love to have those skins and camos, but as a male.
