It’s not the console or controller players. Aim assist doesn’t lock on, it’s inconsistent as hell and usually does more harm than good. It’ll yank your aim off or stick to the wrong target, especially when someone crosses your sightline. Most controller players are fighting it or tuning it way down because it messes with your aim more than it helps.
I play on both PC with M&K and console with controller, and PC definitely has the upper hand. Most M&K players are cracked with laser precision, instant flicks, smooth recoil, and no slowdown. Controllers have their own problems like stick drift, input delay, limited range of motion, and inconsistent sensitivity. PC doesn’t have to really deal with any of that. And let’s be real, plenty of PC players use controllers too when it benefits them, so blaming controllers, consoles, or crossplay every time you get outgunned is just lazy IMO.
I’ve had those fights where it looks like I emptied a full mag into someone, nothing hit, and I’m dead two seconds later. That’s just Battlefield being Battlefield. Hit-reg, desync, recoil bugs, random TTK swings, it happens to everyone.
replying to iLuckyBrad: there are so many youtube videos out right now to show you how to tune aim assist to laser beam. The moment aim assist becomes tunable instead of a toggle it becomes exploitable and an unfair advantage truthfully. Instead of mediating for the console players and telling us we should have to play with them just let us toggle crossplay. There's no reason we should be forced to play with an entirely different input at all, no matter who has the advantage. I just want a fair game that is all, and if I for whatever reason want to play with a friend on console I could just toggle crossplay on and play with the other people who are doing the same. And I just have to add that the controller "disadvantages" make no sense, because I'm tired of hearing the argument that controller players ONLY have their thumb to move the stick while pc player GET to use their whole hand to aim. I grew up playing both inputs and it is in no way easier to aim by HAVING to move your entire arm or entire hand across an entire mouse pad. Moving your thumb a half inch left or right is a much faster input and be equally as precise, just turn your sensitivity up. Where's my 360 era MW2 guys that played with max sensitivity? Stick drift? buy a new controller. I have to buy a new mouse when it breaks. input delay? that one you just made up, frankly. If not, use a wired controller sheesh. the key problem with aim assist is that you wont miss the initial shot. With a mouse if you watch your own gameplay slowed down you'll see yourself for example move your aim right, towards an enemy, over shoot, and move back left to center up missing the first shot typically or just delaying the first shot. With aim assist you tap L2 or LT and then youre basically on target with no overshoot and you manually control aim after that, which is at minimum a one bullet advantage in any fire fight, but with high ROF weapons its likely a 4 bullet advantage. Hopping off my soap box, I do however agree that the larger issue is hit-reg/desync.
A lot of this type of argument gets blown way out of proportion because of what’s shown on YouTube or Twitch. Most of those “OMG THE ABSOLUTE BEST SETTINGS FOR BATTLEFIELD 6” videos have more to do with gun attachments than actual aim assist. Streamers and content creators know how to make something look broken to get views and create brainrot content. It feeds the idea that controller players have some kind of hidden aimbot. The reality is you can adjust aim assist settings a bit: things like Aim Response Curve, Aim Assist Type, stick sensitivity, and deadzones. But none of that makes aim assist stronger. It just changes how it feels. Some settings make it smoother or snappier, others make it slower and steadier. It’s all personal preference, not some way to boost magnetism. You’re fine-tuning comfort and control, not turning it into an aimbot.
Aim assist is inconsistent, not overpowered. If it really gave a huge advantage, every top player would be using a controller by now, but the majority of pros still prefer mouse and keyboard for precision, flexibility, and consistency.
And about those “controller disadvantages” being made up, they’re not. Input delay is absolutely real. Acting like input delay doesn’t exist or I made it up is just wrong. Wireless controllers over Bluetooth can add 5 to 10 milliseconds easily, and even wired controllers on console often have a few frames of buffering delay that mouse setups on PC don’t. Then you add display latency from TVs or capped frame rates, and it adds up. The delay might be small, sure, but it’s measurable and it does exist. Pretending it doesn’t exist just makes you sound clueless about how hardware actually works. Every piece of tech introduces some level of latency. You might not always notice it, but it’s there. That’s not an excuse, that’s just physics and polling rates.
As for the “thumb vs. hand” argument, moving a thumb half an inch isn’t the same as full arm aim. The smaller your input range, the more coarse your control becomes, which is why sticks rely on smoothing and acceleration to feel natural. Cranking your sensitivity up doesn’t make you more precise, it just shortens your control range and makes small adjustments harder to manage. Mouse input is true 1:1 tracking, while controllers use curved input scaling. They are two completely different systems.
Controller players are just as tired of hearing PC players act like using a thumb to aim is some kind of advantage. We deal with stick drift that we constantly have to tune deadzones for, even on brand-new controllers, limited range of motion, slower fine-tuning, and analog input curves that are never perfectly linear. Aiming with your whole hand doesn’t make you disadvantaged, it’s just different. If aiming with a thumb was really that much easier, half of you would have dropped the mouse in FPS games years ago.
Forcing mixed inputs just stirs up arguments like this instead of letting players choose what and who they get dropped by. The idea that aim assist is some unfair, exploitable mechanic is mostly pushed by the loudest voices online. YouTubers and streamers love to call it broken one week and then use it themselves the next because controversy gets clicks.
Both inputs have their strengths and weaknesses. Mouse and keyboard offer better precision and reaction time, while controllers have smoother close-range tracking. The real issues are still hit registration, desync, and overall game consistency. If Battlefield fixed those, this entire debate would probably disappear.
Not sure where the white knighting is coming from here. Controllers absolutely get an advantage. I played a few rounds with one on PC one night when my mouse had died, not even messing with the aim assist curves or changing any settings. I sucked **bleep** at it. It was very foregin to me so I could not even move around very well but I got like 17 kills in a match still because it felt like all I had to do was get my crosshair anywhere near the target or even just sweep it past and it was like an instant kill compared to ahving to emtpy half a magazine into someone usng MnK. Every kill I got was complete and total BS in my favor. The TTK for controller players is rigged.
There is a "sticky aim" and I know this because if I am on a dead sprint with my knife in hand and a MnK player starts shooting at me I can weave and dodge and escape death. If it is a controller player their reticule follows me no matter what moves I do and that is unfair.
Controller players can shoot into smoke and get kills.
Controller players have a huge advantage in vehicles or as gunners
Controller players can shoot at you from a distance and work strafe back and forth and their aim sticks to you with little effort or need to dextrous coordination. It's just kind of automatic for them.
The ONLY disadvantage controller players have is if they start getting shot in the back they are screwed. Apart from that they have an advantage over MnK players in pretty much all other aspects just because of the TTK comensation. You're not going to tell me I'm wrong because I experienced it.
Ok, here's the deal. I've seen tons of you guys complaining about how OP controller players are. You're the 3rd PC player I've seen talk about plugging in a controller, ON PC, and getting crazy sticky aim assist. But I don't think console players are getting the same experience.
Myself and plenty of other "white knighters", ON CONSOLE, do not have that. There is no, "oh, I just gotta get my reticle within 3 feet of the guy, ADS, and it'll snap to center mass". Doesn't happen. There's slight slowdown when ADS'ing, that's it. Unless you're using a cronus, of course (over 3k purchased in the last month on amazon with 12k reviews).
When using a sniper or DMR, if you're ADS at long distance, and an enemy runs past your reticle, the "aim assist" slowly starts to trail them. It doesn't lock to the body though, it just follows them slowly a few feet behind. And when you try to put reticle on said target, it's like you're fighting against the aim assist.
So I hate to think this way, but if it's true that even the aim assist is better on PC, then just add that to the already long list of advantages PC players have over console players. Yes, there's less recoil on controller. It's pretty hard to control recoil with thumbsticks. It's much easier to control recoil with a mouse, just like aiming and tap firing.
