Subject: Serious concerns regarding cosmetic direction, immersion, and broken promises in Battlefield 6

I am writing to express my deep concern over the current direction of character and weapon cosmetics in Battlefield 6. During early development, the community was led to believe this title would be a return to the franchise's roots—focusing on gritty realism, authentic military immersion, and atmospheric warfare.

Instead, the current rollout of over-the-top, cartoony, and sci-fi skins feels incredibly insincere. It feels like the development team has completely forgotten their original promises in an attempt to mimic Call of Duty or Fortnite.

The recent additions in Season 5, including the bright golden and glowing ember-looking cosmetics, completely shatter any sense of a grounded military shooter. Furthermore, crossing over into Dead Space collaborations and alien-themed gear has pushed the game entirely out of the military genre and into arcade fantasy.

If the development team insists on keeping these immersion-breaking cosmetics, they should be strictly contained to the Redsec portion of the game, which in itself already feels distinct from the traditional Battlefield experience. Pushing these fantasy aesthetics into the core, classic Conquest and Breakthrough modes completely ruins the tactical atmosphere and alienates the core player base that built this community.

I strongly urge the team to wall off these over-the-top cosmetics to specific casual modes, or introduce a "Disable Non-Authentic Cosmetics" toggle in the settings for players who want to preserve the game's original artistic vision.

  • True enough. IMO, BF4 was the perfect FPS. It had its faults, but overall it delivered what we wanted. They need stick with what was originally promised and stop fixing what isnt broken. If it weeds out squeaky-voiced kids talking non-stop, addressing the squad as "chat" like they are an influencer, and saying they are "cooked", and other nonsensical phrases, I am ok with that(looking at you, Applesauce***). They still have CoD and Fortnite. If young Timmy doesn't have his neon pink Oni-Masked character with ridiculous equipment and a bright **bleep** Gucci cerakote job, he will just have to find a safe space. Although it makes target aquisition easier...

EA has become a follower, not a leader.  Their top games are re-re-re-re-hashes of everything that was once an original work, or they just buy out someone else's good idea studio and rehash their work.  Why risk developing a brand-new game when you can just make 20 versions of FIFA?

And in that vein, EA has chosen to follow the likes of PubG and Fortnite with the completely unoriginal public Battle Royale, paid ridiculous skins and cosmetics, and celeb tie-ins like Top Gun.  Actual gameplay is laser-beam guns with wildly variable TTK and controls set up to allow huge disparity between players based on platforms, ping, aim assist, and just outright cheats.  This is the direction BF is going, and at some point we may wind up with just another Fort-Battlefield-Nite that is F2P and all about the cash-for-cosmetics.  Face it, Battlefield players are probably a slightly older crowd with higher expectations and history with the franchise, that's not who they want to cater to anymore.
