Helicopters are really starting to ruin the game for me.

Helicopters are really starting to get on my nerves. If someone is flying one who has had a bit of practice, it can completely ruin the entire match. Scores like 40/2, 60/3 or even 80/4 seem to be more the rule than the exception these days.

The amount of effort it takes to actually take down a helicopter is clearly very high, because quite often an entire team simply fails to do it. And I can understand why.

More and more often, you get killed by a helicopter from 200 or even well over 300 metres away. As infantry, you're just gone in one hit.

You don't see them, you don't hear them, and you don't even hear the incoming missile, rocket or whatever it is. You don't see anything approaching either. One moment you're fine, the next moment you're dead.

I've had it happen a few times now on Tsuru Reef, while I was inside the building at E trying to capture the flag. Apparently a helicopter can fly low somewhere hundreds of metres away, look straight through the glass back of the building and instantly kill infantry inside.

And whether these players are cheating or not, it creates a really unpleasant gameplay dynamic. You basically can't walk anywhere anymore. You're constantly being instantly attacked by a helicopter you can't hear and can't see. When they fire, they seem to hit everything, everyone gets wiped out, and you simply can't get into any kind of rhythm. You stop taking the routes you'd normally take because you expect to get deleted again.

By now I've played enough matches like this that I usually know how the rest of the round is going to go, so I just leave the server.

But at that point, the only people really enjoying that round are the helicopter pilots. As a developer, surely you have to think a bit further than that?

Apart from that, I'm also becoming more suspicious of some players using cheats in combination with helicopters and tanks.

Personally, I find it quite difficult in this Battlefield to hit AND kill infantry consistently with a tank. I found that much easier in previous Battlefield games. But then I see some players driving tanks and I honestly have no idea how they manage to hit so many infantry players so consistently. Of course, maybe that's just me.

I have the same problem when I'm a gunner in a helicopter. I can fire an insane amount of rounds at infantry and plenty of them still manage to get away. Yet when I'm on the receiving end as infantry, I hear one little "tick" and I'm dead.

And then there's the netcode.

For me, it always seems to work against me. I don't know exactly why, but since the latest updates I've had even more of a feeling that I'm dealing with serious desync than before. And it was already much worse for me than in previous Battlefield games.

Which is saying something, because Battlefield has never exactly had a great reputation for desync, especially for people with fibre internet and very fast hardware.

Think whatever you want about it, but I thought I'd share my experience again. :)

Yes, absolutely—especially the mobile AA (Gepard). It is extremely weak when facing helicopters, particularly attack helicopters. It needs improvements; the current state disrupts game balance and needs to be fixed urgently.

the fact that this is topic number zillion about choppers it makes clear that the whole balance is completely off, or as EA/DICE state: we see some things in de data. Next thing they do is a very tiny tweak to the bird cos dont want to upset the playersbase in the air cos thats their main target. Infantry should be lucky to be allowed to play with them

  • I wrote a post talking about this earlier in the week. The air vehicles and spawn camping vehicles truly ruin the game balance - I'm an avid helicopter player, and i'm normally able to average about 15ish kills before i get smoked. There are way too many people who exploit game mechanics, such as cooldowns, timers, and map geometry to their advantage. I really feel that the helicopters should have less and less health with every repair, and the handheld aa launchers

The infantry experience in BF6 is so far removed from the insane fun and enjoyment of BF1 and BFV, it’s as if BF6 is in an entirely different genre made by a different game developer.

The infantry experience in BF6 on maps like Goldmud(one of my all time favs from BF4), Mirak, Contamination, The oilfield map(Blacklisted the day it came out), Liberation Peak, Wake Island, and even Manhattan bridge are absolutely miserable because of omnipresent helicopters.

    The reasons are myriad.

    • Lack of trenches, trees, forests in between objectives, as well as on and inside objective areas.

    • lack of AA guns for infantry to access on every map that has aircraft. At least 2 in every spawn and 1 at most objectives.  BFV did thus and did it well.
    • Lack of actual overhead cover on many objectives. Infantry are easy targets for even an average pilot.

    • PTFO is not required on most objectives because the objectives were poorly designed by developers that have never played as infantry in a Battlefield title. There is  literally zero overhead cover for infantry on many objectives.  Anyone that’s played even 1 day of BF as infantry knows that this means that we get farmed from enemies and helicopters nowhere near the objective. GG DICE.

    • Damage from LMG and .50 cal HMGs on vehicles does laughable damage vs all aircraft,

    • Insanely fast cooldowns on flares.

    • Self repair for the attack chopper is garbage and doesn’t belong in game.

    • no anti air mines. Engineers have access to AA mines in BF4.

    • The below radar mechanic is absolute cancer to the franchise and one of the worst mechanics ever introduced to the franchise.

    • Cooldowns on vehicle respawn is a joke. Spend 5 minutes to down a little bird, he’s back in the air a minute and a half later. **bleep** DICE.

    • No ammunition crates on objectives. This is a great feature in BFV. Why would DICE abandon this concept?

Whatever the golden ratio the OG DICE used, as far as vehicle to infantry numbers, that worked so well in BF1 and BFV, have been abandoned. It’s non stop death after death after death to vehicles for infantry players.

You really can’t hate Neu DICE for what they’ve done to the infantry experience.

Most of the maps that have attack chopper and Littlebird shouldn’t have either.

Throw in 2 more Blackhawk transports per team and give us a break from omnipresent Littlebird and attack chopper

It’s mentally exhausting being farmed by this cancer to the game almost every single match.

  • Completely agree. AA launchers are absolutely useless - heli fires flares and simply goes behind terrain until the timeout passes.
Had several games in a row where dominating attack heli locked us in a base and game was lost due to all points captured. No way to deal with it. I'm also terrible with aircrafts so I simply can't do anything.
