Issues With Battlefield 6: Portal, Persistent Servers, Bots, etc.
Hello everyone,
I think we all have a myriad of problems we would like EA to review, or at the least, address to the playerbase. Let’s not lie to ourselves and say this game has a good player retention. Stats show that the playerbase has dropped significantly since launch, and that’s normal for a game with live servers and massive hype. What isn’t normal is how EA is treating this issue. It feels like no matter how much feedback we give to the dev team, no one is actively trying to satisfy the players. So, here are some problems I as a Playstation player located in Asia, and many other players are likely experiencing.
Portal: Devs, please realize that Portal right now is an absolute disaster, and the main reason for that—no one plays it. This has been an issue since Battlefield V and will continue to be if not addressed. Yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and night, I went into the server browser for portal and saw that the most populated server (which was a pilot practicing server) had a whopping 5 players. Across the worldwide Playstation playerbase. And the rest? AFK xp farms that don’t even work since the xp reduction on bot damage/kills. Portal was hyped up to be the actual persistent servers of Battlefield 6 with a full-on server browser like we had in older titles, and yet now it has turned into a glorified money and server storage waster with barely anyone playing it.
Persistent Official Servers: Persistent servers were an iconic feature exclusive to Battlefield that allowed large-scale team based gameplay and a sense of community. You could go up against the same enemies for games upon games and form rivalries; you could squad up with teammates you just met and form friendships. This was something the Battlefield community took pride in. In combination with a (non-Portal) server browser, this was Battlefield’s identity. Now it seems you guys are shifting to small-scale squad based co-operation by removing this feature. Gone are the days of fighting your rivals for hours on end, adding some randoms who were fighting alongside you. If community-based servers like the Battlefield 3&4 ones aren’t an option, then at least implement something like the Battlefield V demand-dependent servers where all 64 players could stay together after a game ended.
Bots: Bots are kind of like a byproduct of not having persistent servers. Since I am located in Asia, specifically the Hong Kong server region, where the playercount may not be as high as Europe or NA, games are becoming more and more like PvE. Now, more often than not, I find myself having to choose between turning on crossplay and getting absolutely shredded by MnK players or turning off crossplay and farming brainless bots until this game feels like a zombie shooter except the zombies have guns. If we'd had persistent servers and a server browser, this wouldn’t be a problem as I could see which servers have real players and queue up for those instead. Or another solution would be to allow us to switch server regions like the system Apex Legends has now.
Well, that’s most (but definitely not all) of the problems that we the community would like to express to the devs. It hurts as a part of the Battlefield playerbase to see so many issues left unaddressed. Thank you to everyone who read this, whether you’re a dev or a player, and good day.
