Jets need some love

Jets really seem to be a bit of an after thought in this game.
The arcade-like physics, the lack of unlocks, the broken air radar, the lack of effective speed control, no rear view camera in 3rd person, the extremely close FOV while in 3rd person and the ridiculously quick TTK all add up to a sub-par experience for dedicated Battlefield jet pilots and probably even more so for those trying to learn.

My biggest issue first and foremost are the jet physics. Battlefield 4 jets had a satisfying inertia, smoothness and intuitive speed control. These jets feel like they fly on rails, very slippery rails, where I find myself never really worrying about speed control because it has an extremely wide range whereas jets from the past required finesse and practice to perfect, but once you mastered it, it was so rewarding.
All you need to do is watch a jet dogfight session on BF4 compared to a dogfight or even just general flying on BF6 and the difference in look and feel stands out immediately.

Which brings me into the dogfighting aspect in BF6.
As it stands right now, it is non-existent. Even top tier jet pilots understand that it’s now just based on who is on the other persons tail first. Which obviously should always be a concern, but in previous titles you had more than enough ability to manage this.
Now you see these experienced pilots just constantly watching out for when the jets spawn, base camping so they don’t get caught out unexpectedly, or just straight up sneaking up on other jets. Proper speed control, switching techniques, camera work, air radar study all added insane depth to the toolbox of a jet pilot which meant they didn’t have to rely on petty tactics to manage other jets.

A working air radar and the option of a Quick Look rear camera would immensely improve the experience as it stands. Please also look at increasing the 3rd person FOV, especially on the fighter jets as it feels like they take up the entire screen and you just have way less awareness of your surroundings.

TTK is extremely quick and adds to my point of worrying about who gets on the other persons tail first. This also inhibits people trying to get better at the jets because they stand no chance of learning when they’re getting shot down instantly.

Im not sure what is going on with the lack of equipment unlocks, if it is a bug or intended feature, so do with that what you will.

In summary, the jets lack depth overall. Whether it is their physics or even basic dogfighting tactics, they just feel unrewarding and need to be overhauled. Honestly just using BF4 or BF3 jets as a foundation would be an excellent start and I believe would satisfy the pilot community immensely.

I agree with almost everything you said here, especially about the lack of depth and situational awareness tools, but I’d actually push back on the idea that BF3/BF4-style “speed control” should be the model to return to. Maintaining an arbitrary number on the speedometer to hit the ideal turn rate doesn’t create a meaningful skill gap; it just rewards memorization and muscle memory around a fixed value.

What really separates good pilots from great ones isn’t who can sit at 315 knots the longest, it’s who understands their aircraft’s inertia, how altitude and energy translate into control, and how to manage those dynamics through a fight. Dogfighting should be about feeling the plane’s movement through space, not adhering to a formula.

If the flight model leaned more into inertia, energy management, and positional tactics, rather than locking “performance” behind a narrow speed band, we’d have far more organic, skill-driven aerial combat where awareness and adaptability matter more than hitting a number.
