Lack of spawning choices

I've got a bone to pick with spawning in general. I might not know the shortcuts for this, but it wasn't obvious.

I the spawning screen having a minimap and options to change class or go to squad mates. I see none of that in close-quarters, and trying to coordinate with the team for vehicles on large maps is a crap shoot at the start of a game.

Is there a button to press or hold, especially at the start of a game?
