To be honest, I wish they had simply made a new big map, rather than recycle an old one. It feels a bit uninspired, and feels like it's pandering to nostalgia, rather than quality design, in order to sell more season passes.
i agree. contaminated in comparison to golmud is a lot better and even then i still dont like contaminated that much.

While I'm not a fan of the medium size of contaminated (and how it was advertised with a picture of the mountains and bases behind to give the idea it's a "big map" when it absolutely isn't), I'd have to say it's better than Golmud in terms of design.
Golmud only had size and airspace, with the moving train going for it. The rest of the season and state of the game is just bland or broken.

Contaminated is about as big as the maps should ever get. Golmud is oversized.

A large map doesn't necessarily mean a poorly designed one.
Golmud has lots of space around the objectives and to either side of the starting area which isn't necessarily used. Aircraft have plenty of airspace, but overall, it's still a bit bland as far as big maps go.
The battlefield 1 maps were a fantastic example of how maps could be big but still have enough depth to the design, whereas we've not seen that level of design in this title so far.
