Sniper Rifles Are Nerfed

Hey all, so I main Recon first and foremost, and the issues especially after this Top Gun update are getting to be quite absurd and noticeable, so I wanted to discuss somethings that can/should be addressed that I have been experiencing repeatedly for at least the past few months now.

To start off, I've got about 1,950 hours in BFV sniping, and about 880 Hours Sniping in BF6, most of my snipers (m2010, Mini Scout, L115) I use are around level 100-136. Its what I do, its what I am, and most importantly I have had all the experiences, I am sure many of you will know what I mean.

Recently these updates have been quietly ruining the sniper class and I find myself wanting to gouge my own eyes out as its not even consistent anymore. This whole ADS movement accuracy thing has been nothing but pain to deal with, while in portal mode or the test range, everything seems to work just fine until you get in an actual match, with this server rewind, bad player ping, and you get one of, if not the most insufferable sniping experience ever.

I just want to emphasize something, these are precision rifles, accurate, precise, rifles. So I dont understand why the base rifles start off under performing. What I mean is, the attachments should BUFF the rifle to make it better, not make it barely functional WITH said attachments after the fact. They should already HAVE ADS accuracy with it, not attachments that suddenly make it accurate while strafing or moving. You gave us a penalty with scope glint, we HAVE to move, we literally flag our positions with this giant flashlight. And I have said this before, you guys have really got to pick one or the other, not this handful of other penalties that you apparently dont even account for, we get 1 shot for kills, when you stack all of the other factors, like 150 ping players that dont update on your screen, stuttering players when they sprint, phantom hit boxes that are really 5ft in front or behind the actual target depending on their internet speed and then the cost of the attachments, 30 points for a straight bolt, 20 points for a suppressor, 20 points for a light barrel, 10 points for glint reduction and 20 points for the base rifle, these are all basic things that barely make the sniper even functional, things that would already come stock in real life. Don't use a suppressor? Mortared from enemy spawn. Don't use sniper glint reduction? Get targeted by everyone. Don't use a straight bolt? Rifle settle speed literally deletes 40% of your shots. Don't hold the fire button for the full recoil animation? Your bullet phases through targets.  Don't use a light barrel, any movement blooms your shot into this random unpredictable 10ft cone around your target. And this is what I mean, all these things are penalties unless its fixed with attachments, many of these things dont exist on the base rifle. ADS movement accuracy starts off either not existing or as a penalty (with the exception of the interdiction).

The reason why I say this is mainly the fault of this server rewind, I wouldn't have to be running around or moving so much if it weren't for this horrible server style with awful hit registration, I've read countless forums, EA, Reddit etc, claiming high ping is this huge penalty and how its super hard to deal with. And my in game experience knows this is a flagrant lie, they are always at the top of the board, ALWAYS. This server style is designed specifically to cater to bad ping, players like me, with 20 and below are punching bags for them. And unfortunately the EA devs know this. They don't even appear on my screen some of the time when they peek to shoot at me. Using light barrels with 750m/s velocity, its literally not going to register ever. you got to aim like 15ft or more Infront of them to get anywhere close. But the shot is just far too slow for the server to even care because I'm shooting at phantoms. I have to adapt by using extended barrels, and I'm penalized for even doing that. Especially after this interdiction introduction, the ADS movement accuracy for 25 pound 10.5mm rifle beats any sniper in the game currently which is something that logically shouldn't even be plausible. Forcing me to once again, use extended barrels, only to easily farmed, because I am only able to attach 1 attachment (a laser) that helps with ADS movement accuracy, which isnt enough to be accurate while moving at all, you need at least 2 and the Interdiction gets 3, (light barrel, any violet or blue laser, 3 round mag) you're looking at the best ADS movement accuracy ever in the game. You cant even achieve accuracy like that with the mini scout anymore, for whatever reason that has been nerfed into the ground (reducing the 1,100 m/s bullet velocity and ADS accuracy because I'm sure the CQB players got mad), nothing even comes close to where I shoot with an extended barrel and a laser for the mini, that too suffers from this 10ft wide random cone of stupidity penalty.

And I think I know the reason this is done, to penalize SNIPERS, for using range (its literal sole purpose and existence on this earth). I understand that this was supposed to be a console first CQB wet dream, its why all the breakthrough maps are so small and SMG oriented and why snipers are constantly being abused. And to make things worse, the only time Snipers are even functional is at and under 200m, farther than that, with this server instability you are not hitting anything, the bullet drag is abhorrent, you might get a kill if the target is standing still or if you're using a client sided practice range. Which all leads back to snipers being stepped on. I can already see this is going in the direction of the War Thunder play style, where every nation except Russia is nerfed so everyone just plays Russia. So for Battlefield 6, everything gets nerfed except CQB guns, and everyone will just play CQB. Maybe that is what the Devs want I do not know.

So something needs to be fixed, the only consistent way I got kills was with extended barrels because the server rewind is garbage and it made dealing with phantom 150 pingers manageable. Now that the ADS movement accuracy has nerfed these rifles and barrel types into the ground and extended barrels are even heavier and less ADS movement accurate than before. I now have to adapt to the light barrel, which penalizes me with bullet velocity, so either way I am penalized with some sort of drawback that makes sniping just so painfully inconsistent. Too many changes is what is killing this for me, change is fine once or twice but this constant every few months completely gutting what the sniper rifles used to be, is really killing the enjoyment of sniping in this game for me.

Anyway I just got tired of constantly hoping into a game, and like a schizophrenic in a padded room, ask myself over and over and over and over and over, "where did my shot go, where did my shot go, where did my shot go, where did my shot go, where did my shot go", quitting the game, going into a portal practice match, shoot the exact same distance, same movement, same environment and have literally NO ISSUES with registration what so ever.

So if you or the Devs ask yourself what happened to the players this, why are they upset, why are they leaving, where did they go. This. This is what is happening. Its hard to explain all the things I've seen without making this huge essay so thats kinda the core of it, I didn't want to get into degrading skill curve of sniper sweet spots (something I'm very against) and the penalty for that (larger rainbow scope glint), but everywhere you look there's some sort of penalty, so i just want the Devs to at least look into that or notice how much we have to deal with. I'm sure they dont really care because its all about what's on paper. But this is feedback about what its like when the paper is put into play.

Just wanted to note that the reduction in accuracy while strafing in ADS is not specific to sniper rifles. I personally like this idea, as it makes for more individual weapon builds, until a few patches ago, I had never bothered with the purple laser.

Also, I'm not a great sniper, but I'm still finding success with the current model. It's much closer to what it was in previous titles, and I find a breath of fresh air: sniping is still quite lethal, but it requires genuine skill. Heck, even nerfed, the range finder still makes it easier than ever before for those who can't assess distances.

The netcode issues do bother me though. playing around with the Interdictor, I found myself on a couple of occasions with someone really close to me, their body was completely filling up my x6 and beyond. I managed to get a shot off in both cases, but no hits. That's... Not supposed to be possible in these particular cases?

I think that's really an issue: if sniper rifles require you to be very precise to get off headshots, then the netcode needs to be flawless.

Yes, I'm very aware of the sniper glint decoys. Its not something I use personally, I move far too much around maps to use them since I play breakthrough, and staying in one spot isnt something I tend to do. I prefer my C4 and Jammer above all. I was pointing out, the glare reduction is something you need to spend 10 points on, and if you use a sniper that has a sweet spot you need it even more. Otherwise the glint is almost double its brightness.

I did enjoy the mini scout as it was one of my highest rifle masteries before all the community backlash resulting in its inevitable nerf, and now, its nothing more than a glorified inaccurate wet napkin, but its valuable for its mag capacity and the built in straight bolt.

My issue with these is 1, the cost of the attachments to make them barely function are too expensive to warrant the low performance of the attachment (mostly lasers and light barrels), the cost of a straight bolt is 30 points everyone using a sniper requiring that knows that's a necessity, that's already half your points including the base rifle.

2, when adding any ADS movement buff it should buff the ADS accuracy to the max, (because again we are shooting 1 shot at a time). Not by 1 level per ADS movement perk, for example, you'd need a light barrel + violet or blue laser to hit ADS movement accuracy level 2 (which is practically speaking the highest ADS accuracy you can achieve with these rifles and its not even adequate). The interdictor right now, with a light barrel, violet laser, and 3 round mag, has a level 3 ADS movement accuracy and out performs all snipers including pre-nerfed Mini Scout. And what we need, is If I use a light barrel, (20 points) it should be ADS movement accuracy max and the same should apply to using a basic barrel (10 points) coupled with a violet laser (or blue) ADS movement accuracy attachment (10 points), for a total 20 points. ADS movement attachments shouldn't need to be stacked to have a functioning rifle and I wouldn't be as upset needing to spend 30 points on a straight bolt, or 20 points on a suppressor, and another 10 points on scope glint reduction. Sacrificing any of these when it comes to breakthrough matches puts you in a world of pain.

And 3, there obviously should be a limit to the movement speed which the ADS movement accuracy is applied, I'm not talking about jumping and sprinting, sliding and all that. Specifically when aiming and moving to the left or right that's should be governed by the number of the mobility on the stat card of the sniper rifle in question, it already dictates the speed in which you ADS move I think this overall number should be cut down based on the weight of the sniper in question (looking at you 25lb interdictor), this would fix 1v1 sniping low ping players not being updated on my screen in my opinion forcing them to move slower instead of tweaking from left to right, and make light barrels competitive for longer ranged shots again. This would also fix extended barrels, since the do not have ADS movement accuracy themselves, it can be maxed with a laser if needed.

  • I will not address the entire post right now, but I would like to ask you if you knew that being within 10 meters of one of your sniper decoys, removes your own scope glint as it says in the decoy tooltip.

Personally I think that it is fair that there is some trade-off in the accuracy for moving while ADS which also makes you harder to predict and hit.

It is rather bad that there is more or less one good sniper rifle in the game (the one without sweetspots, the mini scout) and the others are garbagey rifles for those who cannot land headshots.
