I actually like this idea overall, but I disagree with it being completely without XP. EA shouldn’t have added Portal with all the promises of freedom, creativity, full XP, and progression, only to strip out half its functionality after launch. They’re lucky no one has pushed for refunds or lawsuits after that happened, considering how heavily those features were advertised. That was one of the best things about the mode, being able to set up your own matches, play solo, against bots, or with friends, and still feel like your time in the game meant something.
If they bring in a proper PvE mode, it should still give XP, just at a reduced rate like it does in Battlefield 2042. That system already works fine, you still make progress, just not as fast as in public matches, which helps prevent farming while still rewarding players for their time. People just want to play at their own pace and enjoy the game without feeling like their time doesn’t count. Many people enjoy FPS games but not necessarily playing against others, they just want to relax and have fun without the pressure of competing.
