What is there to look forward to? A concerning future for BF6 awaits.
I don't set out to be this negative, but considering the hours, money invested on Pro and passes from season 1-4, it's very hard not to be, when the development team continues to underperform and miss major improvement targets, with a painfully slow live service model, for a very mediocre experience compared to previous entries in the series, and other titles.
What is there to look forward to?
We've got major video game releases on the way. To counter this, BF6 have hinted that they have decided to release basically nothing of any note for season 5. With all of EA's wealth and resources, even making a battlefield super studio, this is what we are getting?
Marketing and gimmicks over memorable gameplay moments:
As the shop continues to shine with terrible uniform designs, a focus on dead space collaborations (since the development team has abandoned any art style constraints for raking in money), and pushing other junky skins and spray paints (of all ridiculous items) for massive costs that exceed the battlepass price alone, there's really not much to combat the new releases and keep us hooked.
Tidal Strike:
With tomorrow's bleak looking update coming out that has fixed very little of note other than recticles, all we have to look forward to is a mode where we can run around existing maps to unlock a knife (of all terrible, lacklustre rewards).
Phantom Mode and REDSEC:
Then they implement the genuinely interesting Phantom Mode in REDSEC, of all things. Considering I'm still experiencing game breaking glitches in this mode despite countless forum posts and bug reports, I'm astounded that this poor attempt at battle royale is still being updated. Only two hours ago, I had a round where blinding lights stopped me from physically seeing what was going on. This has been around since LAUNCH, and still not been fixed. To top this off, a health dose of menu crashing blackscreening. But we're apparently ok to bring phantom mode in without fixing this?
Season 5. Oh boy:
Going to Vegas is basically a repeat of the California maps we've had thus far, and throwing around the words "Vegas" and "casinos" means very little to get excited about. Why not somewhere completely bee and challenging like central Africa or South America? Why is it always a cod throwback of casino themed galleries? A mere three maps after all this time, (which will no doubt include lots of new York recycled assets and German base corridors), doesn't make me want to buy the next season. If anything it wants to make me save money for these other titles.
Not only are massive glitches and lacklustre design choices still at the forefront since launch across the board, but they genuinely think that adding proximity chat, server browsing and reworking broken maps like Sobek and Blackwell Fields are classed as "updates".
The maps shouldn't have been this bad in the first place, and the above features are a standard in battlefield games and FPS across the board. Why on earth they weren't added at launch still confuses me. This isn't "updates" or "content". It's adding basic features that shouldn't have to be advertised.
To Conclude:
What are we really looking forward to here?
Carrier strike is fun, making conquest seem a bit more interesting, and while the naval combat is ok (nothing compared to BF1) with Tsuru being also average/ok, Wake Island was a rushed failure of map design, with it's silly zipline system and broken breakthrough mode. Throw in a moderately fun Top Gun Collab, it was bland overall with a few little sparkles of fun.
So, where is the next step up? It feels like it's going to be a mediocre three maps, some overpriced skins and a battlepass of junk (which won't even include all the new units to come out), with "updates" of basic features that were missing at launch. Let's also not forget the repeated team balance, mode rotation and temporary mode issues that continue to plague this title of drip fed content.
I'll be in GTA6, Wolverine, Control Resonant, and any other FPS out there, other than this and COD.
Please, BF Studios, do better!
