Battlefield 6 Crashing Xbox Series X to Dashboard - potential short term fix

I have been facing the same issue as many people in this thread with my Xbox Series X crashing to dashboard by about 10-20 minutes of gameplay. I have had 4 of days of gameplay over a period and managed to keep it to 2 crashes over the first couple of days and then played 2 days without a crash.

I will be continuing to monitor this, as previous experience has been that a fix extends my playtime and then the crashes come back in and worsen again.

However, I wanted to provide the full list of fixes I’ve combined to get the game playing for an extended time - I would stress though that the must be temporary as the game is not playing as intended.

FIXES:

  • Xbox taken to a professional maintenance company for deep clean and thermal paste replacement (cost £60, but they took the whole thing apart and did a great job/ I don’t trust myself to do)
  • Deleted game, reset Xbox whilst keeping apps and games installed
  • reinstalled game, making sure NOT to download HD Texture packs across ALL available options
  • ensure performance mode is selected in graphics settings

I play on a gaming monitor which outputs 1440p res @ 120htz refresh rate. I went into display settings on my Xbox dashboard and selected:

  • Restrict FPS to 60
  • Disable HDR10
  • Turned off all 4K features
  • Capped my Resolution at 1080p

I’ve been managing to play with these nerfed graphics settings and enjoy the gameplay - however there are situations where it just doesn’t look as good as it should with my setup - this is frustrating, however for now, imo worth it to prevent crashes.

with all of this set up, the final and most annoying thing I’ve had to do:

  • I’ve set up my desk fan rested on its side so the actual face of the fan is directly leaning against the back of my Xbox, with the back of my Xbox facing towards me on my desk
  • I’ve had to jimmy it and use objects to balance it but it’s covering most of the back surface and I’ve prioritised blowing air directly into the bottom vents of the Xbox to really push air into it
  • a weird thing I noticed with my Xbox compared with my housemates - who’s Xbox has never crashed whilst playing BF6 is my Xbox has stayed pretty much silent during gameplay and then crashed, whereas his has kicked up the fans to a loud level when the game is played on his console - even when mine is clean as a whistle and his is currently still filled with dust weird and wonder if this is part of a wider issue with the Xbox hardware?

I admit I’ve gone in here but I’ve been so frustrated trying to get this game working and have had a few consecutive days of success with all of these actions taken and wanted to pass on. It’s a lot of interventions to make a game work on a system which is running it perfectly for most people but I love the game and have been loving playing Mir with my friends + spent too much money to bin it off.

Hoping this helps someone but again stress we need acknowledgement from EA/ BF Studios/ Microsoft that there is an Issue and a permanent fix so people affected can play the game/ play the game as intended on the hardware.
