Battlefield 6 flawed matchmaking for AU & NZ players to local Oceanic servers

The root cause: Battlefield 6 has a flawed matchmaking system that is not effectively connecting Australian and New Zealand players to local Oceanic servers. Instead, it often prioritizes speed over connection quality, regularly placing players in high-ping matches on servers in distant regions. The smaller player population in the Oceanic region makes this issue even worse, especially during off-peak hours.

The consequences: This is not just an inconvenience; for many players in the region, it makes the game unplayable. This has led to widespread frustration and concern that the game's population in Oceania will die off quickly if the problem is not addressed.

The demand: The standard customer support advice—like using a wired connection or restarting the game—is useless. The community's demands are clear and reasonable:

  • Fix the matchmaking logic to prioritize connection quality and local servers for AU and NZ players.
  • Provide transparency on what is being done to address the problem.

Consider reintroducing a proper server browser for core modes, as the current Portal-only browser is not a sufficient solution for official playlists

  • A region select matchmaking option would be nice. A server browser would be even nicer.

    # Oskool, I agree this is wide spread and yes a 'server browser' absolutely would be invaluable it would also give it the right battlefield vibe as well.

Totally agree. Attempting to play any game modes outside the main ones such as trying deathmatch etc is impossible to even get a game in the daytime. Says populating with bots but doesn’t even work half the time eventually leaving you to have to quit and give up. Needs to be addressed immediately

Absolutely, it is driving me mental. Cannot play multiplayer without playing a portal server because I can select for Oceania servers there, but of course it's full of empty games or bot farms or custom games which don't provide any progression after the changes. Really frustrating. I have not been able to get a single game through the official matchmaking area, no matter the game type, without severe rubber banding issues. I monitored the IPs a few times that the traffic was flowing through and then resolved those and they were AWS servers between Dublin, Ireland, or Virginia and Seattle in the US.

A setting to force a connection to a region would resolve this, let alone a server browser proper.

Totally agree that the provided advice is next to useless. Done it all multiple times over in an effort to diagnose and it does precisely nothing.

  • My buddy in Australia cant find a server with any players. It just fills it with bots eventually. No redsec gameplay, cant do challenges, multi-player is useless to him. Unless I start a match which is in America and drag him in after I've joined. Which he's usually in queue by then and when he gets in, high ping. Bf5, bf1, even bf4. We didn't have no problems. But also there was a server browser. If there are say 1 million players right now that would mean there are close to 10000 servers. You cant tell me we cant get in one. Thats splitting 100 players per server
