I bought Battlefield 6 on Steam, but I already have a long-time EA account with several previous Battlefield titles (BF3, BF4, BF1, BFV, etc.).
Both accounts, my Steam and EA App accounts, are correctly linked. However, when I launch Battlefield 6 through Steam, the game only shows my Steam name, as if it’s a completely new profile.
I was expecting the game to recognize my EA ID and use that name in-game..

Me too, I posted the same problem, would be nice to get a notice that someone is even aware we are having this problem.
I do not understand the problem.
You need an EA Account to Play the game. Your EA Account is linked to Steam for that purpose only.
You bought the game on steam store, your are starting the game on steam therefore the game is using your steam profile.
The Tracker has EA, Steam, Playstation and XBOX.
Your Ingame Progress should update Independend of the Store / Launcher because its linked to your EA Account.
Everything is getting logged into the ea account no matter which platform you use.
