Direct X Crash AMD

Since I can get ZERO help or interaction from a human on my need for technical support on this issue and I am always redirected to post on the forums by AI chatbot or the "self-help" support, here I am... I miss actually talking to a human to help with my technical issues.

There have been zero 'Permanent' fixes on this issue that I have been able to find, anywhere. My battlefield game on the Steam platform crashes from multiple DirectX errors with my AMD GPU. When it crashes, one of my 2 gaming monitors stays on a black screen. The only way I can recover the blacked out screen is by using "Windows Key + SHIFT + P" and selecting "Extend" option on my other monitor. I never had this problem since the beta and after until about ~5-6 weeks ago. I am at my wits end of always losing XP & XP Booster time, progress and fun with my friends to this constant crashing. I also occasionally get the "EAAntiCheat unloaded successfully" in EventViewer.

  • Battlefield 6 on Steam-PC
  • AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor
  • Windows 11
  • Using 2 MSI monitors with 240hz refresh @ 3840x2160 (recommended)

What I have done to try and fix the issue (all of these attempts are each tried individually, each time):

1) I have ZERO overclocking, AMD Adrenalin is set to default settings, I have disabled any of the misc stuff like noise suppression etc.

2) Reinstalled BF6

3) Verified Steam game integrity which it repairs 4 files, but does not fix the issue, did this multiple times.

4) Clean installed GPU drivers using DDU in Safe Mode different 5 times.

5) Tried launching the game using "-dx11" in Launch Options from steam.

6) Turned off overlays.

7) Closed all programs except the game

8) Cleared DirectX cache AND BF6 shader caches.

9) Lowered the in-game graphics settings.

10) Turned off AMD anti lag & future frame rendering & FSR frame generation.

11) Rolled back AMD drivers ranging to 1 to 2 previous versions.

12) Tried updating DirectX but told I have the latest.

13) Tried both Windowed/Fullscreen/Borderless.

14) Limited FPS in menus and ingame to 60.

15) Turned V-Sync on AND off.

16) Tried changing PROFSAVE_profile with text doc (Documents > Battlefield 6 > Settings > Steam > PROFSAVE_profile) Find 'GstRender.Dx12Enabled' changed value from 0 to 1 and save along with launch option -dx12 in Battlefield Steam properties.

17) Deleted profile settings.

18) Windows is on latest updates

19) Disabed all startup apps/programs through MSCONFIG Services & Task Manager

20) Hardware acceleration anywhere is disabled.

21) C++ Redistributable is up to date.

22) AMD Drivers are up to date along with AMD chipset drivers.

23) I did a memory diagnostic using /sfc scannow and the repair Command Prompts too as Administrator (it did repair 1 thing, with no effect).

Couple more random things to go with the last lot of random things to try.

    igpu disabled?

    Re-seated your GPU?

Done the CPU usage fix which helps reduce load on your system? My 5800x went from 90~100% utility to 55~65% utility from this.

Since it seems to be only BF6 thing have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

I know you've tried rolling back two driver versions, but how about three, four or five rollbacks?

Open in the EA app vs Steam?

I have been all over the web searching for fixes; Reddit, Steam Forums, EA forums etc. I try to research my issue and do the trial-n-error before asking for help..

The screen only goes black when it is a DirectX BF6 crash. Then I have to use the Windows Key+Shift+P then 'Extend' to get it back, otherwise it remains black. No other games do this, only BF6 which brings us back to the same problem. The problem has to be from EA's/BF6's end because if none of these attampts have fixed it.. I do not know what else will. But I would love to have an actual EA Representative to respond incase I missed something..

I have only 16gb of ram, set my VM to match it just incase it needs it. Could try the 16-16000 got nothing to lose at this point.

Weird thing i used to have with my 6700 xt under device manager - display adapter - update driver - Browse my computer - Let me pick.

I had two AMD options available to me. One recognized and worked with the drivers for gaming, the other didn't.. It wanted some other AMD graphics drivers that had a blue icon for software when it normally has a red icon. I changed them around and got it working properly on the adrenaline with a red icon.

Random other thing in device manager is disabling the high precision event timer, apparently that helps with games.

Could be something dumb with a default power setting in windows, i think some of them mess around with x3d chips. If the pcie link powerstate is enabled that can cause the odd latency hiccup so mines off for that reason.

You mentioned one display going black, have you changed leads over, used a different port..?

Other than that i'm all out of ideas my dude, I gather you've tried Reddit?

Let me know how you get on and Best of luck.

I only use SSD's in my desktop, I have it set to "Automatically manage it for all drives", but my page file size is 3968MB (I have 64GB of RAM). S.A.M is showing as enabled in Adrenalin. Temps are within expected safe ranges when gaming and there are no PCIE errors. I have tried just the minimalist install and do not install any of the extra stuff (e.g. AI Bundle or AMD Software Extensions) ever. Lastly, I do not have any other computers I can try the GPU in. I also forgot to mention in my previous reply that my BIOS is up to date.

I also added another screenshot of another DirectX error below the first...

There are Windows Error reporting for LiveKernelEvents in what google says it is related to AMD WatchDog, but these appear even after I tried using DDU again and let it idle on my desktop with no games running and no AMD drivers/Adrenalin installed, only had the base Windows Display Driver. These are just a few but they have other variations of similar LiveKernelEvents that are just a decent list So I do not know if these are related to my BF6 DirectX crashes.

Hmm, What's your page file size / drive allocation like?

Had the odd time where it was too small or something was being loaded onto my slow HDD and not the nvme for my boot drive. Mines now only on my fastest drive, just make sure it has the free space available.

You'll know if SAM is enabled as it tells you in the adrenaline software.

Speaking of, have you uninstalled the adrenaline software and when installing it again selected just the driver to install?

What do things look like in HWmonitor when your gaming, temps, PCIE errors?

Have you tried the GPU in another PC? error follows the card or stays with your PC helps with figuring it out.

c++ redistributable is up to date, AMD chipset drivers are up to date, I did memeory diagnostic using /sfc scannow and the repair Command Prompts too as Administrator (it did repair 1 thing, with no effect), S.A.M i will need to look but I do not think that is an option in my BIOS

Chipset drivers ( Not the graphics drivers to avoid confusion ) up to date?

S.A.M enabled in the bios? Speaking of the bios, is that up to date? I only ask as when we installed a 4060 in my GFs PC it was having issues, there was a specific update that mentioned " to improve 40 series compatibility. "

    Update redistributable c++?

Done a memory diagnostic or /sfc scannow in Command prompt as administrator?
