Loading times getting into games

Any time I try play a game it takes 10 minutes to load into the actual game, this happens maybe 9 times out of 10, the games do be nearly half over by the time I actually get in. It’s also the same when I quit to the main menu I’m stuck on the bf6 loading screen for ages, wondering if anyone has any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this as it’s making the game unplayable at the moment

I don’t think so, it’s the only game I’m having problems with, any other game I play runs perfectly

  • Plenty of ppl with the same issue, still no response from the devs. Do you have the Silicon Power UD90 SSD by any chance? I haven't bothered playing since season 1 dropped because of it.

Yeah that’s my SSD but every other game works perfectly on that SSD, just since season 1 started on bf I’ve been having the issues

  • Yep, same here. Played fine for about 30 hours, and now it's not even worth my time. Many have found success upgrading to a different SSD, but we shouldn't have to do that for a single game.

No I shouldn’t have to spend over 100 on another ssd for their game to work properly, hopefully there’s some sort of fix or some update they do to make the game more stable

The UD90's have known issues with BF6, doesn't really seem like it would be a BF6 specific issue. BF6 does use DirectStorage, and not many games do, but it's not a BF6 problem if it uses the latest MS stuff to improve load times. Not saying DirectStorage is the problem here, but there are various reasons why BF6 might have issues while other games do not.

The real issue is that the UD90 is a DRAMless drive, which uses SLC caching instead, and it's also using QLC NAND these days.

So DRAM vs SLC cache, DRAM is great, but you need to put a DRAM chip on the SSD and that costs money. So if you want to make the SSD a few $ cheaper, don't put the DRAM on... Then they swap some of the NAND into SLC mode and use that as a cache, but if you manage to fill that cache the SSD will drop to like 1/10th the speed of a spinning HDD.

QLC vs TLC, well basically QLC lets you fit more data into a cell, makes it cheaper, but again it can have serious performance and reliability implications, especially if implemented poorly. Basically TLC NAND has 8 voltage levels per cell, QLC has 16. Each division is smaller, so error rate goes up and that can impact both read and write speeds.

Here's the thing, you get what you pay for and there is a reason the UD90 is one of the cheapest drives on the market. There is also a reason why they have a terrible reputation, not specifically related to BF6, just in general for their performance and reliability.

Updating motherboard BIOS firmware might also fix SSD issues, since motherboard firmware sometimes include SSD compatibility updates.
