RX 9070 XT - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG / DEVICE_REMOVED - Unplayable

Platform: PC - Steam

When did this start: Significantly worse after Season 3 / Update 1.3.1.0 (May 12, 2026)

System Specs:

- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT (Driver 26.5.2 - latest available)

- RAM: 32GB DDR4-3400

- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 AORUS PRO

- OS: Windows 11 Pro (latest updates)

- PSU: Corsair CX750 with two separate PCIe cables (not daisy chained)

Errors Received:

1. DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG ("The GPU will not respond to more commands"). Driver: 26.5.2

2. DirectX function "m_submitFencePlat->GetCompletedValue()" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED

3. "Hang Detected in waitForFrameFences. Timed out after 8000ms. Waiting for SignalId: 2328. Last Signaled Fence Value: 2329. Unsignaled Fences: (Graphics stopped at 2327)"

All crashes originate from: D:\dev\TnT\Code\Packages\RenderCore2\RenderCore2\dev\source\platform\Dx12\SubmissionManagerDx12.cpp

Fixes Attempted (none worked):

- Latest AMD drivers 26.5.2

- Forcing DX11 via -dx11 Steam launch flag (game ignores this flag entirely and runs DX12 regardless)

- Windows TDR registry values (TdrLevel=3, TdrDelay=60 - already set by default)

- Replaced daisy-chained PCIe power cable with two completely separate cables

- Disabled Steam overlay

- Disabled Auto HDR and windowed game optimizations in Windows Graphics settings

- Disabled FSR, Anti-Lag, and all Advanced graphics settings in-game

- Verified game file integrity via Steam

- Tested multiple graphics quality presets

- Tested both DX12 and DX11 (game forces DX12 regardless of launch flag)

- Disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling

Additional Notes:

- This issue is widely reported by RX 9070 XT owners across Steam Discussions and these forums

- The game was playable before the Season 3 patch - multiple community members confirm it worked the day before May 12, 2026

- Other games (Arc Raiders, Apex Legends) run perfectly stable on the same hardware with zero crashes

- The crash is reproducible within minutes of loading any multiplayer match

- The -dx11 launch flag being ignored is a significant issue - users experiencing DX12 instability have no fallback option

At this point I have spent hours troubleshooting what should be a working $70 AAA game on modern high-end hardware. The RX 9070 XT is one of the most popular current-generation GPUs on the market. The fact that it remains unplayable in BF6 after multiple patches is unacceptable.

I would strongly request either:

1. An urgent hotfix specifically addressing the Frostbite DX12 SubmissionManager compatibility issue with RDNA 4 architecture

2. A working DX11 fallback option for affected users

3. A refund option for users whose hardware is rendered incompatible by post-launch patches

This is not a hardware issue - it is a Frostbite/RDNA 4 compatibility bug introduced or worsened by the Season 3 patch. Please prioritize a fix.

Please try a full reinstall of your video drivers as follows:

    • DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) in Safe Mode
    • Reinstall either:
      • 26.5.2 again clean
      • OR one older WHQL driver if available for 9070 XT

Do NOT import old Adrenalin settings.

    After reinstall:

    • Disable Radeon Overlay
    • Disable Instant Replay
    • Disable Anti-Lag
    • Disable Chill
    • Disable Enhanced Sync

Let us know how you get on after these steps. Thank you. EA_Barry.

Try DDU to reinstall new driver and possibly unplug the internet capble so windows can't download a bad outdated driver which will cause problems and remnant files.

I'm running the same GPU and it is amazing. Not a single issue whatsoever. Loving it.
