Settings don’t save

Hi all, I’ll make this quick. Every time I join a new match or launch the game, none of my settings are saved.

In Documents → Battlefield 6 → Settings → Steam, I only have a file called Steam_autocloud.vdf.
Am I supposed to have a PROFSAVE_profile file there too?

Just to mention, I already uninstalled the game twice to check, but nothing changed.

hey i figured it out turned out to be windows defender blocking bf6 access to c files load the campaign then go check your blocked ones and allow it

I don’t have any battlefield folder in my documents. What do you mean load the campaign and go check your blocked ones?

I apologize for the poor write up lol I was so tired!!

***[FIXED] Battlefield 6 Settings & Save Files — Windows Security Blocking Files***

If your Battlefield 6 keeps resetting settings or won’t save progress, it could be Windows Security silently blocking the game’s files.

    What happened:
Windows Security didn’t show any pop-ups until I launched the game. Loading the campaign triggered the alert, and that’s when I realized it was blocking access to save and config files — the game literally couldn’t touch its own files.

    How I fixed it:

    1. Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history.

    2. Look for any blocked Battlefield 6 files and click Allow on device.

    3. To stop it from happening again, go to Manage settings → Add or remove exclusions.

    4. Add your Battlefield 6 install folder as an exclusion (for example: C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 6).

After doing this, all game settings and save files worked perfectly. No more resets — it was just Windows Security silently blocking access.

  • Thanks for trying, but my Protection history doesn't show anything being blocked, and I've already created exceptions for every single Battlefield 6 folder on my computer. It still doesn't save any settings.

I'm in the same boat, I've tried everything and am pretty close to asking for a refund here.

As the op wrote you must have these files in order for the game to create save/settings. If this folder is missing, you can try to disable steam cloud save under manage. Then create a folder in documents C:\Users\[YourUsername]\Documents\Battlefield 6\settings ... save. PROFSAVE_profile and Steam_autocloud.vdf. have to exist in order for settings and saves, verify and check for these before creating a new folder.

    1. Right-click the Battlefield 6 folder you created → Properties → Security tab

    2. Select your Windows user → make sure Full control is checked

    3. Click Apply → OK

This ensures BF6 can create and write config files inside the folder.

    Make sure it’s not Read-only

    1. Right-click settings folder → Properties

    2. Make sure the Read-only box is unchecked

    3. Apply changes to all subfolders if it asks

Read-only folders will prevent the game from saving anything. Hope this helps because I know for sure how annoying it was, took me 7 hours to get it resolved!

  • These must exist, search your files and allow through defender, if they don't then do the steps above. Real time protection can also cause issues under virus and protection.

This worked! Added my windows user name to the list and made sure it had full access. Thanks for sharing Clint!
