where did the bots go?

I'm sorry to say that they've been disabled in Portal by Dice outside of Custom experiences. Hopefully only temporarily., but it's difficult to say as there haven't been any updates about the situation recently. 

theres real people to play against why would you want to play bots? 

This makes me sad. The game for the first 2 weeks or so was really fun with a revolving list of playable servers in Portal. I haven't been able to play in Official servers due to the time nudge issue ruining my experience, but the 30 Hz tick rate in the Portal servers solved that problem. But now there are hardly any normal servers for Conquest or Breakthrough. It's all either completely empty servers, servers with Modified XP, or Hardcore Conquest servers which I don't always want to play. To play vanilla Conquest or Breakthrough now, I have to just deal with rubber-banding and desync every  10 seconds. It sucks. It was nice when you could join a server with a bot backfill, and slowly over time the server would fill up with real players. This sucks.

Why should I sit and sweat in the game and get mostly discomfort and anger, and all of this is mixed with my hard day, where I only have 1-2 hours to play, and I don't have time to level up my weapons or my battle pass. When I can come and relax by killing bots, even though it's not as exciting, but it's still an intense battle.

I agree with you, I also have a big Ping on the servers sometimes, from 80 to 170, and there are occasional disconnections, even though I play portal with bots just to relax. I understand the internet problem, so I think that bringing the bots back would solve many of the issues. However, Dice wants their game to be filled with code players, so ordinary workers don't have to pump their weapons in battles with bots.
