A Crucial Feedback Regarding The Runner War Story and Historical Neutrality

Dear DICE Development Team,

I am writing to you as a long-time fan of the Battlefield franchise. While Battlefield 1 is a masterpiece in terms of atmosphere, sound design, and multiplayer experience, I believe the single-player War Story "The Runner" (Gallipoli Campaign) deeply missed a historical and emotional opportunity by falling into cliché Hollywood action tropes.

In "The Runner," we see a single ANZAC soldier practically defeating an entire Ottoman army single-handedly. This "Rambo-style" approach completely diminishes the actual historical weight, tragedy, and unique atmosphere of the Gallipoli Campaign.

A much more realistic, neutral, and emotionally powerful narrative would have transformed this game into an unforgettable piece of art. Imagine a storyline that portrays the brutal reality and common trauma of both sides:

The Chaos of Landing: Instead of a flawless heroic push, showing the sheer horror of the landing, with artillery destroying boats and survival being a matter of pure luck.

The Ottoman Reality: Depicting the Ottoman soldiers not as nameless targets, but as young men suffering from severe lack of ammunition, water, and food, yet defending their homeland with absolute resolve. Showing them resorting to bayonet charges when their bullets ran out.

The ANZAC Dilemma: Showing the young ANZAC soldiers questioning why they are fighting thousands of miles away from home, realizing the British promises of an "easy victory" were a lie, and deeply missing their families.

The Humanity in Trenches: Including the historically documented moments of humanity, such as a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded ANZAC officer back to his trench during a ceasefire.

An Unforgettable Ending: When the player inevitably dies in the chaos, showing their name and birth-death dates on screen, followed by British/ANZAC troops silently evacuating Gallipoli in the dark. The story should have concluded with the iconic, deeply moving words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk addressed to the ANZAC mothers ("Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace..."), ending with the historic phrase: "Gallipoli is Impassable" (Çanakkale Geçilmez).

As players, we are tired of superhero tropes in historical wars. We want to see the true face of war—where there are no real winners, only human stories and mutual respect. I sincerely hope that in your future projects, you consider this level of depth, neutrality, and historical respect rather than choosing the easy way out with generic action templates.

Thank you for your time and for creating a franchise we care enough about to write this feedback.

Best regards,

ArabSniper
