Battlefield 4 Ping not displaying in-game, hardware ports?

I saw in a simlar thread someone posed a similar question and the response was to reinstall punkbuster.

I did this and no help. 

What ports do I need to open on my router?

I am able to ping my computer from a foreign IP address not on the same network and pongs are coming back. Yet, I still have these problems.

I don't know why battlefield 4 keeps showing a "-" (minus) for my ping.

Its been 5 days since I originally asked.  Can anyone help me solve this problem?

The saga continues-

I figured I'd risk it briefly and opened up 1-65000 ports and still no ping in battlefield.

So what about the ICMP angle?  Could battlefield actually be using ICMP echo?

My router is old and possesses no option for shaping incoming ICMP, but it does have a ping response built in which I might add is RFC compliant.  So technically when someone pings me, its my router who is pigning them back instead of my computer, but that's no cause for any manner of concern.  For one, the returning pong would be from the same WAN-IP; it is irrelevant of which machine behind NAT it comes from.  If it is relevant, then that begs a SERIOUS question:  What is battlefield doing?  What about my network is it trying to observe?  The hosted game server gets its pong, it should be happy? In addition, the purpose of ping is to determine the status and latency of a host, and since the router's response is on the *same connection* as the machine, the pong is for all intents and purposes the exact same thing whether the router hardware generated it or my windows OS generated it.  Granted, there is a little room for a computer science debate that pong time might be extended if my machine were affected by its various processes but this would very negligible in multi-threaded architectures (which is basically every Intel and AMD chip in existence today) *provided* the machine isn't "thrashing" (that's actually a CS word), but mine isn't 🙂

I did create a custom windows firewall rule to allow ICMP to all "just in case."  I just wanted to add this line in case an EA mod wants to blow me off by saying, "Did you add an ICMP rule to your windows firewall?" -- yes, I did.

I played around with netstat a bit:

netstat -a -b -n -p UDP
netstat -a -b -n -p TCP

While bf4.exe makes use of both protocols, it appears the primary connection to the server is TCP.  I'm kind of shocked that a game developer would do that, since UDP with CRC-32 error correction has traditionally been a better choice for FPS games... this probably explains all the "netcode" trolls you guys have been getting.   Anyway, 3702 UDP looks like its talking to the battlelog plugin (probably over SOAP-udp I imagine), and there is some curious UDP ports it uses from 50000 - 60000 or so, chosen at random, and yes I let those through the router too.

I'm just generally curious at this point how the game goes about determining ping.  It doesn't seem conventional in any case.

I have the same problem since Bad Company 2 and BF3, and it continues on BF4…
It wasn't a problem untill a lot of servers put a ping limiter that auto kicks players.

Also, I can normally see servers pings in battlelog servers list, but strangely I just noticed that right now I can't see them anymore while I'm writing this, It's the first time that it happens.

Sadly I don't know how to fix this, and it's hard to find people that have the same problem.
I also use a router, but I don't want to change a lot of settings on it because everything else besides BF4 is working fine so I don't want to **bleep** everything up.

Also in BF3 , we need som help... people blaming me for their laggy play cause they believe we are hacking if no ping has been shown in the console

I would love to have this resolved as well. I can see pings just fine in the browser but not in the game. I would love to know what is causing the problem as BF3 and BF4 are the only games I own that fail to report a ping. I can get pings just fine in BC2 and other BF games so I feel it is a problem with the game or my ISP.

Ok, here are some steps you can try that can minimize the occurrence of this problems:

- Uninstall the Plugin (in control panel>uninstall) then delete the containing folder placed in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Battlelog Web Plugins

Fix for Mozilla FireFox:

- Install the latest plugin
- go to Addons (Firefox menu) -> Plugins
- Search for ESN AND Battlelog
- Set both to: always activated
- close firefox, start it again and it should be fine then

For Chrome:

-Clear Browsing Data ( Settings/Privacy )
-Reinstalling the plugin by logging to Battlelog again
-In the search bar typing the following command: chrome://plugins
-Checking the box Always allowed for ESN Sonar API and Battlelog Game Launcher
-Restarting the Browser
-Log back into Battlelog via Origin (Play from Battlefield4 icon )
-Join a Server

For Internet Explorer 11
-Restart IE 11
-From Internet Options/General tab -> Clear Browsing data -> Delete button
-From Security tab, slide the bar to bottom -> Medium Protection
-In Trusted Sites -> .battlefield.com should be added along with battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/ and battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/
-It will require a System Restart in order for the 7 step to be applied.
-Log in again into Battlelog and download again the plugin.
-Join a server.

Also, try this additional steps, if the above does not work:

1. Open windows firewall
2. Click advanced settings( on the left) and then inbound (also left)
3. Find PnkbstrA.exe and PnkbstrB.exe (if you have two of both, its fine)
4. Right click on each of them>properties>programs and services
5. Make sure that "all programs that meet the specifications" is checked
6. Then go to the "Advanced" tab and check all 3 boxes. Domain, Private and Public.
7. REMEMBER TO DO THIS FOR ALL PnkBstr Files. Then save and quit.
8. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 and delete "Pb" folder.
9. Go to these 2 links:

10. Download and install both
11. Run Pbsetup.exe (the first link)
12. Add a game (eg. bf4)
13. Check for updates.

-Reinstall DirectX.
1:go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4\__Installer\directx\redist
2:Find file named DXSETUP.exe, right lcik and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR . Install it. It should update your DirectX install.
3: You might need to reboot computer first.
4: try to launch game.

Still doesn't work then....

-Update your Microsoft .NET framework.

Make sore your drivers and updated.

Get sure that you have disabled all ad and application blocking software in your browser and using the latest version of Adobe Flash.

For Battlefield on PC, please enable the following online ports on your connection:

TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

I think there is something more to it. I have tried disabling the firewall, opening the ports, DMZ, reinstalling the plugins,  toggling the upnp setting, etc. Its not a problem with the web plugin as I can see the pings in battlelog. As far as I can tell on my end its either a firmware issue with my router or the isp is blocking something. I heard some isps block small packets maybe that is whats going on.

I got my ping back after I made sure there was enough of RAM available.

at least 1gb must be unused I think.
