Re: DirectX Error | "GetDeviceRemovedReason"

Hello friends,

I have this issue as well and since EA is not replying to this known issue I though to gather some information in the meanwhile myself.

So, I went to the Nvidia live chat and talked to a very friendly advisor and explained / showed him the error.

His reply was this: We get this type of error every single EA release and we had it with every Battlefield release, including Battlefield One.

He told me that the Directx error needs to be fixed by EA and Nvidia as well as all the players affected by this issue are waiting for a patch with fixes to the known problems.

Unfortunately there is no given date when we will get a patch with those solutions included.

But, in the meanwhile I went through forums and found the following that helped for people as a temporary fix:

- Instead of full screen mode, try windowed mode (Option in BF1 settings).

- Open up Origin, Settings, Origin In Game, and turn that option off called 'Origin in-game'.

- Go to Directx website and try to update Directx.

- Get the latest graphics card drivers.

- Get the latest Windows updates.

- Go to Advanced System Settings, Advanced, under performance click 'options', click advanced again, when u see 'Virtual memory' click on 'modify' and select 'size is managed by the system', click 'ok' and restart your system.

So, there are all the temporary things I have found by reading forums and figuring things out myself. You can give them a go, maybe something will work for you. If not, you'll need to wait until there is a fix for this problem.

I hope this has helped some of you, good luck! 🤔

  • Tried the solutions proposed above, they did not work.

New NVIDIA driver came out today so I went ahead and tried that out too.

Still getting the same error as in the original post.

Driver installation was done in safe mode after running DDU.

    Attaching a DXDIAG file.

  • Tried the solutions, thanks but it's not helping me.

Starting to lose faith, I really love this game (Lvl 55) but the crashing is doing my head in...

I just installed fresh Windows 10 after formatting my whole PC. installed newest nvdia drivers and latest directx12. and I still get this error.

so for you guys trying to re-install drivers ans stuff, its a waste of time. don't do that. I think we just have to wait for a fix by EA.

Yah they are investigating the crash ,,, outa all the things I tried to fix , seemed to work for a while then .  heart attack ,  those large posts and fix this here and that . We done everything , everyone still havnig the crash ,  BF1 is usless at this point . Lowering gpu clock to stock speed with MSI , and creating a cfg file in bf1 folder to render at 50 fps . seems to help , window mode seems to help .. but at the end of the day, even if you get a few rounds in like I do . It eventually gives you

    "GetDeviceRemovedReason"

yah , Big BF1942 FAN , my first fps game ever . tried other ww2 games . dIn like em . But BF1942 rocked, and I looove to fly and dive bomb ... such a release ...  you see them bail outa there tanks as they hear you dive .. all the lulz .  Then BF1943 comes around and its ...console only ??? I was so let down , so it was BC2 and bf3 and 4 ,, what a nice idea BFH but ,, yah
Then comes Battlefield 1 .. OMG this looks like a modern BF1942  OMG OMG PC multiplayer ..  sOOOO excited ..  I  play the beta  and its a dream, the guns , theme , feel everything, the music was epic .. so  I pre Order Delux .. waiting for that date ... finally Im playing for a few days nice . After the Oct 20th .  Im crashing all over the place . Everyone has DX error and me too .
I know you will fix soon , BF3 , was BS now its great , same with BF4 . But . . Joystick not able to keybind for flying , buzzkill .  , then this DX code fail  .  Took the wind outa my sails

I wish the best speed to you guys trying to figure this issue out .  Some rep came on battlefield forums and said they are looking into it ad to rty rolling back drivers
the game will not run on driver older than 375 .. so I was kinda wondering how you can make BF1 accept an older driver . .. nevermind  . good luck

I am getting the exact same error, sli 570gtx on windows 10.

Generally i last between 10 and 25 minutes before the game crashes with the same directx hung graphics card model error. Really frustrating considering i bought the huge collectors edition box and i used to run BF2 tournaments...

Hopefully a patch comes out soon, im just glad its not me, i got really frustrated thinking my hardware was broken.

I know my PC is old, but 570 gtx sli does the job, it defaults to everything low but gets a pretty smooth framerate at 2560x resolution (big monitor).

Will be upgrading in about 5-8 months.

  • Tried enabling DX12, now getting a different error message :

    ---------------------------
    DirectX Error
    ---------------------------
DirectX function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG. GPU: "", Driver: "37563". This error is usually caused by the graphics driver crashing; try installing the latest drivers. Also, make sure you have a supported graphics card with at least 1024 MB of VRAM.
    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------

It seems my graphics drivers crashed from what I'm reading in the windows event viewer.

I attached the related logs to this post

    -6000 forum posts https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/38131/directx-function-error-nvidia-still-no-fix-updates-in-op-13-11-16-21-52-cest/p1

-1 month since game came out, still no fix

-dozens of crash in very few hours of gameplay

-No in-depth problem analysis or anything closed to a description of the root cause of the bug

-No way to get a hang of someone in EA chat support

-No compensation whatsoever for the $80 game I bought and haven't been able to play in over a month

Come on, I mean the company making this game could go and say what is actually going on, it's not like they don't know.

Yet they refuse to give an answer.

Can this be excused by not wanting any bad media attention ? NO IT CANNOT, this is a bug that affects thousands of people and they have made it completely clear what is happening, this is something that a public announcement should be made about.

AN ETA FOR A FIX OR A COMPENSATION

Still no response from EA. Made a bug report but there is no actual customer support to go to. So far it looks like they are just messing with us. Denying us access to the game we all BOUGHT in good faith from EA. And now they REFUSE to accept that they have messed this up completly. This is not a hardware, software, windows or anything like that bug. This is EAs poorly coded Direct X making it impossible to play.

This has existed since BF3 and it denied people to play back then. They have not fixed THAT either! So what makes us think they EVEN CARE!!

EA. IF YOU ARE EVEN BOTHERING TO READ THIS. I AM NEVER TOUCHING YOUR * AGAIN. IF you had the courtesy of actually caring to help your customers. RESPOND DAMMIT. Instead of just shoving everyone with this issue to the "This issue is already being discussed in a different channel"
