Re: Which is better, BFV or BF4 vehicle spawning?

Old School... If you want a tank/apc, spawn at the tank deployment field. If you want a plane/jet/helo spawn at the airfield. Get to the vehicle and go.

Never liked how a player that just died can take a vehicle from someone that's been waiting just because they have a little lower ping and they click faster. Sucks even more when the person essentially stealing your queue sucks in the vehicle and is wiped out almost as soon as they get it.

The other side of this is you're sitting in a damn menu screen. You could be on the airfield with AA, or tank depot with artillery or some other defense while waiting for vehicle availability. Doing "something" for the team.

When I started playing Battlefield (2002) it was an open sandbox game. All tactics where fair play. All bases, CP's, vehicles were fair play. Modern Battlefield has turned into a overly casual hand holding shooter. I'm hoping BF6 edges back toward its core roots a bit.

edit ...

If they keep "spawn in", then I'd like to see a queueing system applied. First queued gets first dibs. The UI will denote number of players queued for vehicle. When the vehicle becomes available the first queued gets a 3-5 second deploy window. If they don't deploy, the next in line is prompted and the other is removed from queue and spawned at main or optionally preselected CP.

I also favor the old school open sandbox game, with all options being fair game!  If some server owner wants some special limitations applied, then they can do so in their own settings.  But your suggestion about a queueing system would be great if combined with like vehicle spawning in aka BF4 or before.  So when you are dead/at spawn screen, you can confirm if you want to enter queue for a given vehicle if none are available at that time.  You can then see your slot being confirmed in the queue.  To decide if you wanna spawn in first and be active in other actions till you get closer to the front of the queue line.  And at a certain time after dying (again :o), you will then be notified at spawn screen that you are at the front of the queue and you may opt to remain there to enter into the vehicle or not at next availability.

This way both the novice and the expert vehicle * gets an equal chance to try it out.  Though no doubt the experts will be able to stay alive much longer than the novice.  So this should mute their objections for allowing others also to try and gain some experience in the vehicles. All experts also started out as newbies one day in the past.

I don't like the idea of queueing in a system like BF4 or older. Unless it's tied only to vehicles that don't spawn unmanned. Like aircraft on some maps. For example Jets on Golmud Railway.

For all other vehicles you have to get to them first and enter manually. Like Golmud tanks, quads, apc's, choppers.

Only apply queueing to vehicles that do not spawn unless manned.

    Jet: 3rd in queue...
When available... [Deploy!] (5 second count down)

At 0 sec, no deploy: Remove from queue and either pop up a notification or auto spawn at main, closest CP to death location.

    Simple and Done.

@Rev0verDrive For me the good thing about BF4 was the pre-determined vehicles. Vehicles are stronger than individual infantry-players and not restricting which vehicles are used on a given map, is part of what makes games unbalanced.

How people get them is another story and is less important. No system will avoid vehicle-players 'wasting time', waiting for a given vehicle.

Definitely like the preset vehicles of the older titles.

Only issues I had with the "Spawn-in" assets like Jets/Choppers (map dependent) was waiting for the spawn and it being snatched by a player that had just been killed 15s before spawn while I waited 1:15 for it.

Only to beat me out because he had a lower ping. That lower ping allows you to get the button enabled sooner and the press return to server sooner. First to server wins.

In the older titles I'd be standing at the jet spawn waiting for it. He'd be sprint jumping toward it. Or see me there and go for something closer.

@Rev0verDriveThey should just make a queue-system. And then let people play as infantry (while waiting) and when they get a slot, let the player decide within 10 seconds (or so) whether they want the vehicle or not.

This way we don't have people wasting a lot of time "not playing" and all get a fair share of vehicle play.

  • @cso7777 A que system is a great idea. Just get in the vehicle que and keep playing. No more mashing X over and over. A que would be fair to all that want a vehicle.
  • Vehicle Queue downsides?

Infantry's mind won't be on the fight in front of them if they've queued but are already thinking of Flying or Driving .

Flyer (at last!) is temporarily ineffective if they've been so busy fighting that they haven't even planned their flight yet .

A Players urgent needs for any Vehicles as Counters will have most likely already passed by the time it's received .

The critical time to think-up some alternate Counter because of this first-choice unavailability will also have passed .

Some or all of these running concurrently with each other could be as destructive to Teams as Idle-Waiting itself .

@tempo_rarityEverything has downsides no doubt. Personally I think your downsides are for the more 'sweaty' players. A big part of the player-base does not think that much about things, they just play.

But a queue system will mostly hurt vehicle-only players, because they will probably get less access to vehicles and be forced to play infantry more.

This will perhaps be a good thing for the overall game-play. More players get access to vehicles and for infantry, it could mean that less "extremely good" vehicle players dominate the game too much.

You'd have to limit any queue, and possibly even refresh (wipe) it every so often.  Unlikely i know, but imagine having 50+ players all in a queue.  Loads of people will join the queue just for the sake of it, or because you have to join a queue 'right now' in the hope you will get a vehicle in maybe 10mins time, rather than trying to get a vehicle when you actually want/need one.

    sniff sniff . . .

If BF 'years' are like dog years (1 equals 7) we sort of have 56-year olds and 14-year olds waiting for Vehicles in two Games .

    🐶

Here then is why this dog is thinking BF4's Vehicle Spawn is 'better' :

It's 'inner workings' are 'older and wiser and generally respects recognized talent more' .

What does that even mean? (and please understand I'm referring to the Games ages , not Players ages)

It means that the vast experience of most BF4 Players allows them to notice when a Mate is doing well in a particular Vehicle .

That Player usually gets it back if they die because most of those Mates know that that Player is the best choice to use it .

I just don't see this much in BFV yet - it does occur of course , but nowhere near as frequently as in BF4 .

Its Player base doesn't seem to have yet achieved this same plateau of Game-age-related 'wisdom and respect' .

In capacity-filled rounds in both Games , our Inexperienced Wannabe Vehicle User stares at that available Vehicle .

In BF4 that Player usually knows that during a full round there is an unwritten 'rule' that NOW is NOT the time for 'practice' .

They leave it alone , or at the very least they'll wait to see if that Player really wants it back , and then take it if they don't .

In BFV that same unwritten 'rule' hasn't truly sunk into the psyche of its Players yet  - they just take the Vehicle .

Generally , real-life dogs will eagerly and without hesitation hop into 'rides' like cars etc .

It's only some of them who stop-n-pause : 'A ride , but to where? To the park , or the vet?'

We'll get more of those in BFV eventually , but for now , that dog 'pact' seems to rule in BF4 .

@tempo_rarity player culture evolves each generation wanting something different and it is up to devs to accommodate all.

But you are looking nogistic back ignore problems and limitations. I started back in BF:Vietnam I saw how people played in BF2 and BF2142 was nothing like the gunho individual in BF3/4 compared to the zerg of BF1 to the to complete selfishness of BF5.
Most of that is how the game is setup.

Now some people want BF6 to be a balanced sandbox styled in BF3/4 and others want more.

Why can't I pick an Abrams, Challenger or Leopard and spawn in with but according to you, I can only have Abrams because it needs to spawn on a map first because you believe players where better behaved in BF4. Well I remember far more trolling in BF4 than BF5.

  • @DingoKillr
You've got Rottweiller skills in that Tank (whichever type it is)
Why would Chihuahua-skilled me ever hop in?
I wouldn't , which is a trend that I'm suggesting is far more likely to happen in BF4 than in BFV , based on the experience that has built up over there that hasn't quite appeared yet over here .

    You got me though .
I ignored the issue of trolling in my post , which IS present in both Games .
I ignored it because a solution I had floating around to it was too fuzzy and likely even more problematic .

The 'role' of Squad Leader can currently be taken away .

Maybe . . . so too could the 'role' of Tanker be taken away in the future (or Flyer) .

Currently , ignored calls to the Squad Leader for Orders gets them tossed .

In the future (?) perhaps ignored calls to Vehicles for Support gets them tossed .

One can still queue for Vehicles , but they'd better be Teamers - it may be the only one they'll get .

Getting 'Tossed' removes their name (for a period) off that 50-Player Vehicle queue .

    nope , still too fuzzy
