We Just Want to Play and Have Fun Again

Dear EA and the entire team working on the next Battlefield,

I’m sure you’ve all already have all the metrics, playtime, player retention, engagement levels, and so on, but I’d imagine those numbers show that it’s the casual players who really keep Battlefield alive.

We're the ones who log in after work or school, carve out a bit of time from our lives whenever we can, and keep coming back because we love the game. We're not chasing perfect K/Ds, we're here for a good time, for the thrill of capturing objectives, and the chaos of large-scale warfare.

But lately, it feels like a lot of the mechanics are being designed with that 1% of ultra-competitive players, the ones who slide around corners at lightning speed, jump nonstop, spam smoke grenades, and chain movement exploits just to boost their stats. That kind of gameplay might be fun for them, but for the majority of us, it just gets exhausting and frustrating.

In almost every match, there’s always one or two players abusing these movement mechanics, going 50–5 or whatever. Good for them, I guess. But that’s not what makes Battlefield fun. That kind of gameplay breaks immersion, disrupts the flow, and honestly just feels out of place in a game that was originally about large-scale combat.

As a casual player myself, I used to play Battlefield daily. Even with limited time, I’d always jump in for at least an hour. But over time, watching players hop around like rabbits, slide-cancel through every doorway, and abuse movement tricks made the experience feel less like Battlefield, and more like a broken arcade shooter. And I started playing less because of it.

I’m genuinely excited about the next Battlefield. I’ve read it’s going to be more grounded and minimalistic, which is awesome. But I really hope that mindset also applies to gameplay. I don’t want a mil-sim, but I do want a fun, grounded experience. One BF that doesn’t revolve around hyper-aggressive players abusing movement exploits to rack up kills, turning every match into a frustrating circus of movement spam that leaves most players feeling left out.

Please consider balancing mechanics in a way that makes the game enjoyable for everyone, not just the elite few.

I believe the core Battlefield experience should feel fair, immersive, and fun, grounded in authenticity, not dominated by flashy exploits.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on updates as they come.
Really hoping this next entry brings Battlefield back to what made it special in the first place.

Sincerely,
A casual fan who just wants to have fun

Thank you for getting back to me. I truly appreciate your attention to my request 😀

  • Exactly like my thoughts 🙏🏻 This is very reason why I play old-schooled FPS games over newer ones.

  • We need a stamina resource again to punish abusing cheesey things.  I know people look at Bad Company fondly but that was when stamina was removed and we started getting unlimited sprint and tactics that the stamina resource could curb.  The slide and vaulting have always introduced hitreg issues.  2024 has really bad hitreg in general but it gets abused with these cheese tactics that are not kept in check by a stamina resource.  They need to prioritize server performance and hitreg to be reliable.

The next gen game needs to raise the skill ceiling but there is no way that can be done since crossplay and consoles are involved.  Controller support for PC also is a problem as well.  There is a lot of ways to abuse the mechanics of the game without installing any actual cheats.  Since aim assisted automation was introduced it has done nothing but dumb down the FPS genre.  Every one that grew up playing this way doesn't understand the skill that should be required to play FPS games.  There probably isn't any going back as well.  You can't get a game of full PC players since they botched everything there was a bout BF2042.

My hope is for server browser, Clan/community run servers, enough PC population to not need crossplay checked, and mechanics to support roles and slow the game down just a bit.  Not mil-sim slow but enough to differentiate it from a trash game like COD/modern warfare.

I would be fine with aim assist and crossplay between PC and consoles being removed. I would take the challenge as console player, had played Insurgency Sandstorm which doesn't has AA. I would also go as far as having limited stamina. I believe, I would be fine with that too. Bring it on, good old days 😎

I completely agree with your perspective. I also think a stamina system would be a great addition to help prevent players from abusing certain movement mechanics that give them an unfair edge in combat. That’s exactly why I mentioned how frustrating it is to constantly see people jumping and sliding all over the place in Battlefield 2042, it completely breaks immersion and ruins the flow of the game.

Personally, I’ve always preferred Battlefield precisely because it offered a more tactical and grounded experience, far from the fast-paced, arcade-style gameplay of Call of Duty. Unfortunately, I believe EA is trying to attract a portion of the huge COD audience, which is probably why they’ve pushed the game in this direction. That makes me doubt they'll slow things down or introduce more thoughtful mechanics anytime soon, and that’s a real shame.

Still, I’m holding onto some hope that the next Battlefield will bring a better balance, with stronger server performance, meaningful mechanics, and a more deliberate pace that feels true to the franchise's identity.
