Comparison with CoD MW Groundwar
As so many BF players ingame and in different forums have stated, that they might switch over to the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare, I thought we could make a thread comparing the most BF style gamemode from CoD WM called Groundwar with Battlefield V. This might make us aprreciate more, what we have with BF and maybe yield some ideas, what could make BF even better. Of course some thing are hard to compare, as the new CoD plays in modern days, while BF plays in the second worldwar. However, just playing a couple rounds of the beta showed me huge mistakes in Groundwar, that make me wanne play BF.
Negatives:
- Mapdesign: The map Karst River Quarry is quiet big as promised. It´s nowhere near what Panzerstorm or Hamada are, but it is something new to the game. However the overall design is really bad. Snipers can get on pretty much every roof and there is a big ridge on one site of the map, which is another great camping spot for snipers. BFV has a lot more verticality than previous games, but it is not so overwhelming. You just don´t ever feel safe moving outside of a building.
- Damage modell: I know that CoD and BF always had a different damage modell and some players might like one over the other. Yet, the ammount of oneshotkill weapons in CoD is just annoying. I´m really glad the BF devs decided to nerv the damage from some of the explosive weapons against infantry and the damage modell for sniper rifles in BF is just so much better. I can´t stand firefights, where I don´t even have a chance to fight back.
- Ingame sound: The ingame sound in CoD is just overloaded in my opinion. There are way to many announcements. Futhermore, the directional sound is really bad. It is really hard to hear where you are getting shot from and trying to listen for footsteps is pretty much impossible, as there is just so much going an. This is done way better in BFV, where the sound is just another source of information to help your game.
- Killstreaks: I know this souldn´t really be used as an argument for one or the other game, as killstreaks are just a part of CoD, but the ongoing UAV spam there is with 32 players in each team ruins the gameplay in my opinion. There is no way to get behind enemy lines and kill a lot of them, because you are on their minimap almost all the time. This is another aspect of BFV that I love. Having reduced 3D spotting by a lot and spotting for the minimap as well, has improved the gameplay quiet significantly and makes it so much more enjoyable.
- Performance: Using similar settings as I do in BFV ( 1440p, low-medium) I get around 60% of the FPS, that I do get in BFV. I know this is just a beta, but since the BFV beta, the performance hasn´t really improved much for me. So I do get more frames in BFV and it looks way better in my opinion. This might change, as CoD doesn´t have much experience with big maps. Furthermore, the game crashed on me several times already. This does happen for other players in BFV, but as I don´t have this problem in BFV, this is super annoying for me.
- Hierarchy: CoD does seem to have a similar organisation in squads, but it isn´t well implemented in the UI.
- Teamplay: Well there is none in CoD as far as I can tell. I don´t see any reason to stay together and pretty much everybody is just trying to reach their killstreaks.
- UI: The UI in CoD is overloaded and distracts from the gameplay itself. This is much better done in BFV. The UI in BFV is very clean and refinded, yet it gives you all the information necessary.
- Movement: Even though CoD is such a fast game and has such a short TTK, the movement feels super clunky. Furthermore, the stun mechanic is super annoying. Just another factor of the game, hinderning you to have a fair fight.
- Vehicles: The damage output, acceleration and movementspeed is to high in my opinion. I will look in this aspect further, but it doesn´t look and feel right as it is right now.
- Weapon balance: I have complained about the weapon balance in BFV already and it isn´t perfect in my opinion, but in CoD there is just no reason to use most of the weapons.
Positives:
+ Spawntime: I really like being able to get back in the game fast after dying. Having to wait for the spawntimer in BFV is just wasted time.
+ Hitreg: The hitregistrations feel quiet good in CoD. However, most of the players on the server have a really low ping, not like in BFV where the average pings seems to be around 70ms at the moment.
I will add to this list playing the beta and would like to hear your opinion as well. Maybe we can find some great aspects, that could be added to BF in the future.
