Dynasty Is Basically Ruined For Me (List of 9 Problems)
Just finished my first year of a dynasty with USC - I lost the championship to Ohio State which is fine. But I feel... nothing. I don't seek revenge; I barely got into the first week of off-season recruiting before I just turned the game off. Here are a few things that took me out of it constantly:
1) Teams not losing rank despite losing several games. There were several points where I, with USC, was undefeated and ranked within the top five, with Michigan right behind me despite them losing THREE games (including to us, which implies that we were one loss away from them jumping us). They even made it to the playoffs ranked within the top five. When I told a friend about this, he had a similar experience where Georgia made it to this playoffs with a losing record. That's insane.
2) Rankings and CFP rankings consistently made zero sense. They were also confusing. It's hard to explain why, but stuff basically never added up.
3) I've seen this talked about before and I had a similar experience: a few of my defenders had amazing seasons. Bear Alexander won Defensive Player of the Year, Anthony Lucas was also in the top three. I had two defensive backs with multiple pick sixes and other amazing stats, up for awards and everything. Not to mention Zachariah Branch returning a ton of kicks back and scoring like 25 touchdowns total and winning awards. But when the All-Americans were announced... nada. Not one defender was an All-American. Branch was nowhere to be found and Bear Alexander was 2nd-Team All Big Ten. Simply didn't make sense. At all. The Center made it.
4) Remember in the 2000s where they had magazine covers fitted for the news and updates in between weeks of games? It was so cool to get a visual glimpse into what was happening around the country. The ticker stuff feels so lifeless and superficial here. It feels like we're back in the 90s when technology was limited. Not to mention stuff constantly didn't add up (I saw a team ranked #0, as well as a typo, grammatical error, the score saying one thing but the words saying that the other team won...)
5) The announcers constantly got stuff wrong. Every other game he'd say "he has yet to throw a pick" when the QB did indeed throw a pick or even multiple picks. Crazy.
6) No senior bowl or any all-star game after all this time is so lame. It's 2024 and we can't experience what it's like to play with the best. I remember the pro bowl in the early-mid 2000 Madden games. That was 20 f'ing years ago, and yet that's impossible today because... ? What, not enough time? Sure.
7) Amazing Juniors still don't even consider the NFL. In the real world, Bear Alexander not only leaves, but probably goes in the first round too. But nope. He's back for next season. I know the NIL is in place (except it's not in this game, which is fine) and it may incentivize some to come back for another year, but there's no way a big time Junior who won Defensive Player of the Year doesn't even have a conversation about it. This was a thing back in the old NCAA14 and you'd thinking after spending 11 years watching Juniors leave for the NFL that they'd try to reflect that here. Nope.
8) Numbers changing if I change the name of Teambuilder players. And because of the lack of customization, there's literally nothing I can do about it. I've heard that Freshmen come in with wacky numbers, so I can't wait to see that and be helpless. Smh.
Sidenote on Teambuilder: why can't we see the real ratings for the team? No matter how much I alter the player ratings, I'll see the team ratings that reflect the team archetype. How does something like this go untested? It also doesn't change for Dynasty.
9) And lastly, one of the most baffling glitches I've ever encountered. I had four games where one on of my best players would just vanish off the field with no explanation for the first half of the game. They don't appear injured, they're at the top of the depth chart (which I haven't touched at this point), but for some reason they're not on the field. This happened IN ALL THREE PLAYOFF GAMES: Zachariah Branch would just vanish. Can you imagine having one of the best WRs in the country just disappear for a whole half in each playoff game, for no reason? That's crazy. There was one work-around I found: and that was to choose "By Player" when looking for plays - be sure to click the play of the player missing. It made ZB return to the field. However, this also happened with an offensive lineman, in which case I wouldn't know how to fix that. In all cases they returned in the 2nd half.
I have a pretty high tolerance for games at release, and in general. This is the first time I can honestly say that a game is nowhere near complete. Feels like they put all their eggs in the gameplay, which is great to an extent. The recruiting is also dope when it works. The presentation is lovely the vast majority of the time. Everything else about the game feels like it needed another six months minimum.
