Why are my dynasty players not progressing!??

Disregard if this has already been covered. But why won’t player skill points carry on thru to the next season?? I understand the max out abilities of players and archetypes of player capabilities, that’s great. If I have a heisman contending QB as a redshirt freshman, and he had 7-8 skills points accumulated over the course of a season why and how does it make sense to not roll it into the following season?? The player skill points zero out and reset once the new season begins. In terms of player progression, why wouldn’t they allow the player skill points to compound and roll into the next so you can afford the skill upgrades??
