Improving Authenticity: Color and Branding Suggestions (Georgia Southern)
I can tell a lot of effort and attention to detail went into making each school feel unique and represented. That said, I wanted to share some feedback about how the team colors and fan apparel are being represented in the game. I will be specifically focusing on examples from Georgia Southern and Paulson Stadium, however this discussion is applicable to many teams in the game.
It looks like the game uses imported school color palettes and then randomly generates fan clothing using those colors. While that’s a logical approach, it’s creating combinations that just don’t exist in real life, which breaks immersion during games.
For example, at Georgia Southern games, I’m seeing fans wearing navy jerseys with gold numbers, and gold jerseys with navy numbers. These simply don’t exist — not on the field and not in the stands. Gold is a very minor accent color for Georgia Southern, typically only appearing as a thin outline in the logo. In real life, the jerseys are navy with white numbers and white with navy numbers. There is no gold alternate.
On top of that, there’s a heavy gold presence in the scorebug and jumbotron graphics as well. The specific shade of gold being used is also off — it looks more like a dull, brownish baby-food color rather than the light accent gold sometimes used by fans. It’s just not something people wear to games, and it stands out in a bad way.
This issue isn’t limited to Georgia Southern. I’ve noticed the same thing with the Georgia Bulldogs — fans in the crowd are wearing red jerseys with black numbers and randomly placed "G" logos, which again is not something you’d ever see at a real game. So it seems like this is a broader color logic issue affecting several schools.
Now, on the positive side — I want to give credit where it’s due:
- The inclusion of the Georgia Southern “call and response” chant is awesome. The cadence is slightly off, (This is also true with the Georgia Bulldogs chant) but it’s great to hear it in-game.
- The Erk Russell statue is a fantastic pregame detail and a very cool nod to his legacy with the program.
- I appreciate the removal of the random high-rise office building behind Paulson that didn’t exist — the updated backdrop looks much more realistic.
- The fireworks are a great touch and add to the atmosphere.
- Including our white helmets was a nice detail — thank you for that. Hoping for some more alternates to be included in the future!
- Overall, Paulson Stadium looks excellent. Really appreciate the work that went into capturing its look and feel.
Suggested Fix: Recommend adjusting how the game prioritizes school colors — with more focus on the actual gameday usage rather than just equal weight between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. In Georgia Southern’s case, replacing most of the gold with white in the fanwear and UI would make it much more realistic (and clean). Eliminating some crowd apparel combinations in the featured crowd scenes that don’t exist in real life (like gold/navy jerseys) would go a long way in improving immersion.
Thanks again to EA for all their hard work on the game. Glad to have this franchise back and I hope this kind of visual polish can be considered for a future update.
